I hit a Bambi July 3rd 2003 while on my 2002 Nt train while riding with my wife. Yes, it was approaching dusk and yes this was a known deer crossing. I was lucky. Running at 55 the silly thing came out of the right ditch and try to beat me to point "A". We got there at the same time and Bambi was killed and we never went down. Like I say I was Lucky, held my line and puckered up for impact. Since then I was thinking the odds were with me that I would never see another deer; WRONG. Last year 70 mph interstate and I just caught a glimpse of a big one crossing the 4th lane (west) and jumping a fence and gone. Immediately, I turned my eyes to where it must have came from (east) and there it was (where theres one theres more). I slowed my 08 RG down and swerved to the passing lane and luckily it stopped, slipped on the road and fell. I went around it on the left, my buddy around it on the right but my brother-in-law came thru 3-4 seconds later and the deer was up and headed back to the east and he popped it. minimal damage, nobody hurt, no bikes down. The deer got up again and ran away. Yes it was 1/2hr after dusk. Now I ride a 09 SERG with anti lock brakes and at dusk and dark I ride with 2 fingers on the brake and my rt foot in a position to react fast. If I have time to slow/stop/avoid (plan A) I will, if not I'll squeeze my tank, butt cheeks (pucker up) and hang on tite while maintaining a straight line (like has worked before with Bambi, raccoon, possum and a very large turtle). The stupid deer have crossed in front of my jack up Silverado too, left them in the ditch with 4 hoofs pointing to the sky. Had I been on my bike I fear it would be me lying eye to the sky.
