No debate here.
Scott said "use 20/60 Redline" so I do.
While everyone else is debating, I'll be out riding!

Hmmm.  Should I refer to Chip as Mr. Chithead, or Master Debator?  :nixweiss:

Yeah, well, here we go again.

There are wonderful, logical arguments for different oils for each hole in an HD.  BUT..... the metrics have successfully run the same oil for all three functions thru one hole and have no problem with longevity, and, in actuality, achieve better reliability (for different reasons).

So, IMO, in conclusion, it makes NO difference whether you put different oil in each hole or not.  It does, however, make a diff that you put in an oil that is proper for the worst case the oil sees, and again, IMO, is the high temp the air-cooled engine sees (read: use synthetic if you are running a lean mixture as do the 2007 and later HDs).

Run Syn 3 in your trans and then change to Redline Shockproof and tell me you don't notice the difference. I think most of the Motorcycle Only oils is mostly hype, there is more antiware conpounds in motorcycle only oils, but just a bit more than allowed in auto oil. As for the added price on this small probably non significant added protection, it's way overpriced! But I'm not saying good synthetic oils are not worth the price, I use Mobil1.

I guess I can try doing that, Talon, but what am I supposed to experience?  My tranny shifts smooth and is quiet - I have no complaints there....maybe it's the Rinehart TDs for the "quietness"??  :)

Has anyone had a lubrication related issue that could have been prevented if they had been using a different brand or viscosity if what they were using was within the OEM recommendations?

Doesn't that just boil down to the old argument "which came first the  chicken or the egg"

How do you know..........

Lubrication broke down then engine, or was it the engine then lubrication.

smelly burnt oil and metal bits in both.......

seems like the determining factor is how old the oil was (time and mileage)

It's a HD trans?? ;D I notices a big difference in the smoothness of the shifting and less clunk. Yes clunk is a technical term!

I used to hate the fact that there are three holes, till my cam bearing blew.

Because there are three, the metal on shredded in one compartment, not though the whole motor!
