Will have to see how this one does long term.  Only have 22K on it so far.  Problems have been minor - rear wheel bearings replaced at 19.5K with tire, heated grips just died - new ones on order, indicator bezel on dash cracked (!?!).  I noticed last week that one of the rear floorboards is mounted backwards - don't know how that slipped by me.  Primary is starting to get a little noisy - I'll have them pull the cover at next service.  Oh, and the front forks suck, rear suspension isn't much better.  I have a 5 year warranty, and lifetime service plan (thank God), so will have it at least thru the warranty.

That said, the bike is a blast to ride, gets 44+mpg  unless I'm pulling the trailer, then it's around 40.  I have had the front wheel leave the ground in a first gear roll-on.  The handling, overall, is not bad for a huge grocery hauler.  I've had riders on sport bikes say "I didn't know you could ride a bike like that, like that".

My dealer is MUCH improved with new management over the last year or so.  Even with my service plan, I'm not made to feel like they are doing me a favor to service my bike.

My other 2 bikes are a 2000 Moto Guzzi V11 sport and a Kawasaki ZRX1200R (leaned on).  Probably won't buy another Japenese bike, but I like the european stuff.

I'll buy another CVO, but it will have to really interest me, and will probably be a touring mount.  My next HD might be a XR1200.  Hmmm, that would be cool in a CVO version.

I was just reading about the new BMW 1600 series GTL.  I gotta say, that six cylinder with 160 hp and over 100ft/lb of torque from 1500 rpms up, is sounding mighty interesting.

It does look buggery...true... :D...

No floorboards may be a problem...My fat arse sitting on it prolly look like a gorilla trying to pooch a football anyways... :P

I'll prolly just fix the 09 up for another 5-8K of non HD parts but wont buy another new bike from HD without some major reform.

After riding my son's V-Rod I've determined there is no CVO in my future ever again.  And I have one of the relatively good '08s.  I love it, but recognize that I got lucky and regardless, paid way to much.

So for the same or less money:

'08 or newer V-Rod with ABS
Road Glide Fairing Kit and Electronics (Hey... I like the CB and intercom built in).
Modify a set of Road Glide lowers and crash bar
Add a set of floor boards
Throw on a set of Corbin hard bags or go the HD route (Need to modify the exhaust side bag I think)
Change the suspension and bars to something that's a bit more tour comfy.
Some engine work to get the tourque up just a bit to carry all that extra weight.

So there you go.  I know it's been done before.  Just check the V-Rod forums and you'll see lots of info on it.  They even make the fairing mount kit.  But the point is I'll be giving Harley a lot less money then for a CVO.  And I'll have a much better bike as that Harley-Porscheson is a pretty reliable piece of machinery.

Thats funny.  I Bought the VROD before the bagger.  After having a custom corbin low profile seat made, and a round trip to sturgis (2400 miles) on that new low profile really cool looking seat, I bought the SEEG.  ;D

Kept both bikes for a few years.  Finally sold the VROD for half of what i had into it 5 years old, and was glad to get it.

I will buy a new SE bagger when i win the lottery, or when my current one can no longer be ridden.

A low profile seat?  I have the advantage of being tall enough that I don't need to go the low profile route.  I also have a seat customizer who's a member of my HOG chapter who can add extra padding and since I really don't care one iota about looking cool, I'm hoping a modified seat and better suspension will cure the issues you had.  I do know that it rides a hell of a lot smoother then Nemo as far as vibration goes and Nemo isn't bad at all to begin with.  The fact is that I won't do this unless I can afford to make it my second bike as I intend to keep Nemo and add a second bike in 4 years after all the current vehicles are paid off.  So worse case scenerio I have a touring bike and bar hopper that's got bags.

Yes,  I understand what you say.  I loved that VROD, but it just wasnt practical anymore.  I like to tour.

I stopped at Schaefers yesturday and spoke with Chris.
You did not go for the 2005 VROD SE?
I also saw the blacked out bike looked cool
They had 3 VRODs on the floor.

Well I know this dosen't hold a candle to most guys/gals on this site, but I have bought three Harleys and none of them were "New". The 09SEUC was the newest with the least amount of miles on the odometer. I don't think I would buy a "New" CVO. I might buy a new bike for my wife if she ever decides "IF" and which one she wants. For me to buy again, the color and graphics would have to really fire me up and be better than the one I have. Judging from the colors choices of 2010 and 2011 models I don't really see that happening. No offense to all those owners, I just was not impressed with the colors. To be honest it wasn't so much a color problem but the "Flames", flames and more flames.

Hey Jeff,
You shoulda told me you were in the area.  I coulda ducked out of work early and met up.

If you're referrring to bike we bought for Sean, the smaller gas tank and lack of anti-lock breaks make it a less attractive bike.  Sean can do a custom paint job (we have a friend who's a painter) but you can't switch out the gas tank or add ABS to the '05.  They have the same engine and the price was 3K less for the '08.  Plus he liked the Blue on the '08 better then the Teal on SE version.

If you're referring to my desire to make a "Water Glide" one day...  It's along way off and will also require the larger tank and ABS to meet my technology and convienence requirements.  Nothing against the CVO V-Rods, but I think the '08+ are better bikes.

We'll have to get together in the Spring after Sean get's the bike in his possesion so you can check it out.

Ride Safe,
JC

To answer the question posed by the title of this thread

WHEN HELL FREEZES OVER !

I might buy a used 09 B/W/O SERG if one came along at the right time and price, but that'd be used and a private sale. The MoCo got some $300k of my hard earned money over the years and never made me feel appreciated even when times were good. Of late, they've alienated me to the extreme and I don't see it changing.

Ya know...I luv my 08 SERK...just as long as  you don't look close!  Look close you'll see chrome pitting and powder coat flaking. I won't go into the mech. issues. China here, china there...MoCo has taken the cheap route and charge way too much... I'll never touch one again! Muddy
