Anyone ever tried to cancel the extended warranty??
« on: September 30, 2010, 12:45:17 PM »

The dealer that I may be trading my bike in to does not want the extended warranty and says it can be cancelled by the selling dealer for a full refund since it never went in efect since the bike is still under factory warranty. It was purchased with cash after the bike so it is not part or my payment or loan payoff number. Anybody ever tried to do this and will this actually work???

Check the fine print in your contract, there should be a section detailing how you can cancel the plan and how much of the purchase price you should receive.  Don't forget, part of the price was a nice commission for the dealer, and he may not be eager to lose it.  So be prepared to call the actual ESP administrator if the dealer tries to do a smoke screen response to your request.

Did you check to see if it can be transferred to your new bike?  Or is the new dealer trying to sell you a new contract (new commission)?

We canceled the contract on the wife's bike when she sold it. Went to the selling dealer and while they weren't thrilled about it they got us our money w/ no hassle.

Yes, I had the same situation.. My bike was still under factory warr when I traded it in, had it about 1 1/2 years. However I didn't get a full refund. I paid about $1000 and got back about $870 for a 5 year extended warr.
I went to the selling dealer who told me that there were several steps.
 1. They sent me a form to fill out (with the refund amount on it) and forward to the the warr Co.
 2. The warr co. took about 1 month to process the paper and send a partial check to the dealer.
 3. The dealer in turn added their amount to the check and sent the final check to me.

The whole process took over 2 months. :confused5: it was not easy and took several phone calls to get it done. It appeared that the biggest hang up was getting the dealer to forward the check to me. I think the were too many cooks in the kitchen as no one could make a decicion on where, when and who could make out the check.
Maybe you dealer will be better.. :)

Good Luck

As per ESP customer service, the contract can't be transferred to the new bike...so that ends that good idea.....next I will have to contact the dealer that sold me the contract and see how much of an uphill battle that is going to be since they are not the selling dealer of either bike. This sounds like it's gonna be fun......

Isn't it worth more selling it with the bike?

I purchased a 5-year ESP on my 08 FLHX from Jenni at Tri-Counties (my dealer now gives me the same 20% discount, rather than lose the sale completely.)  When I sold the 08, I notified Jenni (yes, it can only be cancelled by the selling dealership) and she took care of the paper work.  I got a refund for about $875.  Even though the factory warranty (I'd only had the 08 for about 15 months) was still in effect, the ESP starts from day one and is pro-rated accordingly (this is especially true if you bought the wheel/tire warranty which does actually start on day one).   When I traded in the 07 SEUC on the 11 SEURG, I told the dealership that it had an extended warranty which would make it sell easier, they said they'd get me a refund, for obvious reasons, and try to sell the buyer a new ESP.  Transferrring the ESP with the bike is only really a good selling point if you're selling it yourself.  They obviously had no problems selling my SEUC as it was sold the next day after I traded it.  The process to get the refund is relatively painless, and be happy with what you get as that can buy you more chrome.  ;)

The dealer who I traded in to does not want it. I guess they want to see a new policy to the next owner.

So here's the next interesting part...the new 5 yr warranty with tire and rim protection is about $1800 I was quoted...with 20% off from Jenni is will still be over $1400...but the dealer where I just bought the new bike will do the warranty for $13/month added to my 5 year note. $13 X 60 months.....That's only $780--is this too good to be true????

Sounds like someone made a mistake, or they just really like you a lot.  Btw, you forgot one additional piece of math if you want to know exactly what you would be paying.  What's the interest rate?

Jerry

9.4% if I keep the load with HD....

And I just called Jenni at Tri County and she quoted me $1111 for the 5yr with tire and wheel protection....She told me that it doesn't matter if it is a CVO or not-they warraties are all the same price. Another dealer told me it was more for a CVO bike...

They quoted you the 7 year ESP (2yr factory + 5 yr ESP) with wheel/tire warranty.  (By the way, you can now get the wheel/tire warranty without having to get the ESP. That's supposedly new this year.)  I got the 5 year ESP with wheel/tire for $1110, after 20% off, from my dealer for the SEURG.

That price is accurate....This dealer is doing a little better than that. Thye came in under $800...but they won't do that for anybody that calls if you didn't buy the bike there. I did the math 100 times.....I gotta give it to them on this one.

They make a huge profit on the ESP's (almost 100%).  That's why they will get you a refund for the unused portion of your ESP when you trade a bike in that still has an ESP on it.  They get no money for that  It's like any ESP you buy for anything (cars, electronics, appliances, etc.), the profit margin is huge for the selling dealer.  You got your ESP just about for cost.
