Got the 816's at a local auto parts store, right next to the 811's.....If the H11 will fit in the highbeam spot then and H9 will fit and it's 65W instead of 55W, just getting the connectors slots to line up is all it takes, sounds like it may already be setup for the H9 connector though...I'll check later.....Night and day is the difference I saw going to the H9 on the lowbeam also, I'd imagine taking it to the highbeam will be alot better also..

Thanks, I'll check out the local auto parts depots.
Check out the PIAA Extreme white plus H11.

Hey FR8TRN, you'll want to keep a check on the internals of the light(s) since changing to a higher wattage bulb.

When I started reading this thread the first thing that popped in my mind was "heat" from higher wattage bulb. I did some upgrading to brighter bulbs for my Yukon fog lights and found out the hard way that housing couldn't take the heat. :'( Ended up replacing the fog light housing after bulb got so hot it melted the connecter down into the housing which burned a hole in the housing. :o

Keep us posted as to how they are holding up.

I'll certainly keep an eye on em d00d, if they give me trouble I'll swap the housings out for Adjure units and be done with it, I know they'll hold up...

Sorry folks, I made a mistake in my original message, the bulb numbers for the '06 spots are 886 for 50W and 881 for 27W, not 816 and 811..... [smiley=oops.gif]

Mike, hope you didn't take my last message to you the wrong way...here is some reading on the subject.....perhaps it can clear up what I was trying to say...

http://www.danielsternlighting.com/tech/bulbs/superwhite/superwhite.html

FR8trn, I read this and the article is probably true and correct for most of the bulbs out there.  There are a lot of claims for performance that is simply not delivered.  I've spent money on some of them and learned this the hard way.
PIAA is an exception.  The statement that the only way to increase output is to increase input is not true.  I've been using PIAA replacement bulbs on my bikes and cars for over ten years.  They really do work as advertised.  They are expensive, but I've never felt ripped off or that they weren't worth the money.  I have the Extreme White Plus H11 in my bike high beam and the difference is very dramatic.

I also have the HID setup for the lowbeam.  One nice feature is that the HID bulb is on its own fused circuit so there is less chance of a total blackout with electric overload, and that frees up power for the rest of the lighting.

I checked out the 886 bulb for the spots.  It doesn't seem to be a direct replacement at least in appearance.  It doesn't have the silvered tip.  I wonder if there is a higher output bulb that does.

Mike,

They probably are compairing lumens of the light in candolas per meter square (cm2) or candle watts...then saying that the bulb puts out the lumens of a cheap 110w with their design of 55w.

I agree...wattage doesnt always equal light out!!!
But I also agree not all bulbs are equal at the same wattage!
The color and perception of the light also can be huge...
So I agree with both of you!

Perhaps, but wouldn't output per square meter be controlled by the reflector in the housing?

When it comes to lighting, there are two critical factors; actual light output in lumens, and beam pattern.

There's a lot of info here. Not being happy with the headlight on mine I have read this thread several times. After doing what was advised in another thread about cutting the top adjustment spring to get increased vertical adjustment. I am happier with the light, but there is still room for improvement. Side Note, it seems HD has realized the problem with the adjustment. A friend that got his bike a couple of months ago doesn't have the problem a lot of us have experienced with adjustment. I guess they figured we had already found a solution to THEIR poor designing and didn't figure they need to bring our bikes back in to correct THEIR problem.

Hey Fr8trn, the 896 bulb has the silvered tip and is 38 watts.  After experimentation, I found that it throws as much light as the 886 50 watt bulb, probably due to its design.  So, you get as much light and draw a safer level of power.  Check it out.

Well for those concerned about the spots being on the same circuit as the low beam and too much power draw and what not.....I just got done going over the schematics good, and making the change to my bike, I was really loading the headlight circuit....so.....I pulled the spots off completely and connected them to the "lights" circuit instead of the "headlight" circuit.
