Hi all! I've been reading this fourm for about a year cause you guys do some of the leading edge stuff to your scoots. Anyway I had to join now to ask if anyone has tried to upgrade (?) the dual bulb headlight with this.

http://www.xenonking.com/6000m.htm

I kinda dislike the "yellow" light from the stock bulb and figure if I have to get the PIAA bulbs I'm almost half way there price wise.
Anyone have any info on this retro?
Thanks
Smitty

05Ultra welcome to the site.  I have not upgraded lights yet but several people have with different products.  I'm waiting to see what the hot set up turns out to be and will go with it.

So to keep it straight, I have 2x50W spots (886) hooked to the "lights" 15amp circuit that runs almost nothing on our bikes, via a connector in the headlight area (the small black one with the blue wire and the black wire).

Hey FR8TRN, you didn't take a pic for us? OK OK, so this connector in the fairing, is it empty, or being used? Did you get a new connector or t-tap into the wires? Come on now, tell us!

Take a picture???  That'd be like thinkin ahead and I try to avoid that...;)....and well the fairing is back on now, so it'll have to wait til next time, I hate takin that thing off.  The connector is unused,  it is there for the front fender light that comes on the regular Ultra's, which we ain't got.  I happen to have a mate for it lying around, purely by chance....And I already had a wire for the spots run down there, I tied em into the low beam circuit after the diode setup they did so both high and low could be on at the same time a while back....

Train, one thing that may or may not bite someone in the butt with the change you made.  I've done something similar to my bike a long time ago to power the spots from a separate circuit than the headlights.  Got it relayed such that if the headlight fuse blows the spots will on no matter what the settings are for high or low beam when the fuse blows.  But they will still automatically turn off when the headlights go to normal high beam.

I like the idea of having them as you've got yours now.  The spots are independent of the headlights and you can control them as you please.  But doing it that way here won't pass the state safety inspection that has to be done to get tags each year.  Part of the test is making sure the spots go out when the high beams come on.  Might get lucky and have a guy not notice it.  Or might get cutesy and work the switches yourself while the inspector watches the lights.  But might not too.

I'm guessing you mean the wires I connected the spots to behind the headlight??  The are on the empty black connector and the wires are blue and black, blue is hot, black is ground, I just used the blue.....

Hey Fr8 that's one fine looking scooter you have, kinda reminds me of the one I have in my garage except for the new horn.    [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

I just got done going over the schematics good, and making the change to my bike, I was really loading the headlight circuit....so.....I pulled the spots off completely and connected them to the "lights" circuit instead of the "headlight" circuit.

So now your spots are always on....not controlled by the "Lights" switch on the lower fariing?

Uhh, no....I mean yes....uhh, the "spots" switch still controls them yes....but they are not connected to the headlight circuit, so the disposition of the high or low beams doesn't effect them, only if the bike is turned on or not, oh and they go off when the ignition switch is moved to Acc also.
