Vibrations when accelerating '06 NEED HELP !
« on: October 10, 2010, 03:27:42 PM »

I've got a Ultra 2006 en went at some dealers but they can not help. My own dealer is bankruptcy, so the warrenty is gone now. But a can go to another dealer but then I pay a lot of money....and then they could find anything :( ???

Here's the problem:
Whem I accelerating the bike start to vibrate a lot, the Badwing is shaking en my feet is vibrate from the footboards.  The vibrate when riding is between the 2000 / 3500 rpm. The rubbermounts are new. Everything has been checked so far but not inside. My bike has run 43.000 km (27000 miles).

My last Harley was a Streetglide 2006, i have drove 2 Road Kings, a Springer and my first bike was a Sporster.
So I know how it feels to ride a harley that is good !  ;D

harley-cor, I am sure you have already done this, but I would check everything that is bolted to the bike starting from the taillight to the front fender including the motor mounts, exhaust etc. I am sure you have already done this, but don't forget to check and  make sure that your  footboards are tight. I had a bad vibration on my 95 Heritage (I know this like comparing apples to oranges) , but I checked everything out and I found out that my right foot board was loose. When I tightened it up the vibration was back to normal ( they vibrate alot because they are a solid mounted engine with no balancer). Let us know when you figure it out. I hope it is something external. Glad I am riding an 09 SEUC now, although I still have my 95. Good Luck CAHDBIKER

Check lower motor mount. The sleeve may have separated from the mount.

Hope this helps. I had an 04 that did this, it vibrated so hard it broke the left mount inside the bat wing.

Good Luck.

Check the following for any hard contact or very little clearance - it sounds like you have something bypassing the rubber isolators:
1)  Mufflers centered on mount under bags? If a muffler has slid rearward, it will bypass the isolation system - especially in accel.  They should be very close to centered.
2)  Frame crossmember under transmission not bent up toward trans pan - many times someone puts a jack under it when changing a tire and when the powertrain shifts on accel it hits
3)  Anything fall down between the primary and frame?

Thx guys, I will check all these points this evening. I hear many about the crank-runout. If it is the crank-runout, what should I do?

Buy a new Harley ???;D

Of course anything is possible.  But your 06 comes before the many crank failures that began with the 2007 models.  A bad crank or other internal engine problem would not be my first bet.

The front motor mount has been mentioned.  It is worth checking.  Might also have a loose compensator nut.  You get to that from inside the primary housing.  Exhaust hitting the brake pedal or elsewhere is also worth looking for as is anything else that might simply be loose.

Why is it that losing your local dealer also loses the warranty for you?  Dealers are merely agents for the manufacturer or a third part service contractor.  So other dealers could and should be willing to work with those contractors.  Unless the "warranty" was some agreement specifically sold by the dealership for use only at their shop you should not be at a loss.

Don't forget to check the primary chain adjustment. I believe your bike was the last year before they came out with the automatic chain adjuster. I recently put one of the automatic ones in my 2004 SEEG and even though the chain was adjusted properly it made a huge difference in bar as well as butt shake at lower RPM's

Just sayin that what we have seen is that when you are braking the out brackets in the fairing that the crank should be checked.  Like I said the last one was a crank that was out .003 on the cam side and .005 on the prim side.  Within specs for the year till you facter in that they where in almost the exact same deg on the crank, it added up to real issue.

Harley-Cor,
My 08 Road King Classic was making me nuts with the same symptoms a few weeks ago.  I'd be numb after 30 minutes of riding which I'd never experienced with this bike in 33,000 miles.
Dealer had worked on it and jacked it all up for me.  Here's what I found.
- The exhaust system was cocked and the clamp that attaches the header to the trans was on wrong.
- The mufflers were not tight and had shifted.
- The front motor mount had been replaced but was way out of alignment.  Took out the center bolt and the rubber mount was over a 1/4" off-center from the engine tab.

Loosened and adjusted exhaust and mufflers. Properly installed the P-clamp on the header and tightened everything appropriately.
Adjusted the front motor mount to relieve any side load on the rubber and centered the mount.

She's smooth as ever now.  Hope this helps you.

Thx everyone,

I've checked many points, but when I'm thinking about the exhaust, shall i check this with the engine on, so you can see that the engine shakes and hits the frame somewhere  ????

I will check the exhaust from the front till the rear completly. And talk with the dealer about frontmount.

I will keep you informed !!

So, after 3 weeks my bike is home again. A mechanic from a dealer mounted a new front rubber at the bike and checkt everything, but unfortunately, the problem has only gotten worse. The batwing vibrate more then before.

My bike is tuned and maybe is there the problem...... but I don't want no longer to spent money in this bike.......I throw this bike in a lake or something  >:(
