Lou (bOOby) down but not out
« on: October 13, 2010, 08:37:28 PM »

Lou, my BSR, also known by some as bOOby is down but not out. Today she had double total knee replacement. She's had bad knees for some time now and today was the day to take care of that. She's doing great tonight, no pain yet, but has an extended recovery ahead of her. I'll be tending to her for the next few weeks but she's a real trooper. She's really looking forward to walking without pain!  :2vrolijk_21:

You both hang in there.  Take care of yourself too.  If you become down and out you can't take care of her.  My father-in-law has had both knees replace and is doing great!!!  My wife will probably have the same.  She has been experiencing problems for some time now but is delaying the operation until she has no other options.

What are you at?  I was originally from a small town in Iowa named Odebolt.  It is in Sac County.  I have a sister that lives in Des Moines.

Wow, two at once.  I had double knee scopes a few years ago... and people thought I was crazy.  Lou must be one tough lady.

I hope she does well and is back on the back of your bike soon!

Thanks for the notes of encouragement! She's doing as good as we expected, maybe a bit better. She's one tough girl. Plenty of pain and nausea but got some good meds that are really helping. She made several treks around the hallways today, the last one was about 180 feet! That's pretty good for a start.

Guns, we are from the Des Moines area and I'm familiar with where Odebolt is. Small world isn't it.....

Thanks again

Hope she has a speedy recovery, watch out for the pain meds, they can become habit forming.

Thanks everyone. She has made great progress today. Walked quite a bit and climbed the therapy steps using crutches. Looks like we'll be going home tomorrow!! The fun really begins then. Dropped back quite a bit on the meds so that's good.

Thanks again.

She can't wait for Tahoe.  :orange: :orange:

Going Home... that means she is doing good.  Always tough on the care-giver... been there and done that too with my wife as she has had her back surgeries.

Like I said before, I have never had replacement (I know that is tougher), but have had scopes X2.  Based on my experience, when you have knee surgery, Ice Is Your Friend.  I had the little ice chest that circulate the ice water for each knee.  Ice did more for me than the pain meds.  I think I only took two pain pills with the scopes... used a lot of ice though.

Just a quick update. She's doing great! Not without pain, stiffness etc. but she is making great progress. She really pushes herself with all the physical therapy. Looking forward to spring and riding without pain!!  :orange:
