HELP- 2011 CVO Road Glide- header, tuner, what to do???
« on: October 16, 2010, 07:45:45 AM »

I have a 110 CVO RG, changed baffles with the fullsac 2", sound is ok for now, may go louder later, heat is a huge problem, the 110 runs like crap stock, my 103 ran better....I want performance and cooling,  can't decide over the  Fullsac x pipe which is coated, jackpot header, or the vance hines cross over which I like the looks alot, then the issue of which tuner, I currently have a fuel pak, not impressed with it, I recently ran down to Panama City, with the stock header, fullsac 2" baffles, and the Vance Hines tuner, at 80 MPH, my buddie said he was going to buy some hotdogs to cook on my baffles as they were glowing orange, 70 degrees out in the evening, why are they glowing, and yes the cat is still in the bike. HELP ME... :nixweiss:

Give Doc a call,  www.docsperformancetuning.com
Or Steve George,  http://www.fullsac.com/
Either one of these guys will have your Glide running cool in short order.

Go with the TTS and the Fullsac X-Pipe. My bike was completely stock except for the Fullsac 2.0 baffles were already installed in the stock mufflers . Base  dyno pulls had max power was 83.80. Max Torque was 103.33. The torque number seems high compared to what I've seen on a few other posts but I always felt it had enough to run 6th gear around 55 mph compared to others who said they needed 65+ mph for 6th. My tuner installed the Fullsac X-Pipe and the Ventilator air cleaner then went to work with the TTS. Final numbers are: Max Power is 96.35. Max Torque is 110.03. This is on the CF: SAE Smoothing: 5. Bike sounds awesome (louder and deeper). Throttle is more responsive. Shifts alot smoother and gets up and goes when I want it too. Well worth the money spent. Talk to Doc @ docsperformancetuning.com and find someone he trained in your area. Don't get one with a map loaded and spend the $$ to get tuned. You will be pleased with the results!

I just did a buddy's bike here, same complaints as you.
Make some phone calls (already listed) and let us know what the outcome is.
Good luck.

Give Steve at Fullsac a call and tell him your desires. I went with the X-Pipe, 1.75" baffles, Arlen Ness AC, TTS and Steve's stock map. These mods cooled the bike and it runs great. Couldn't be happier.

The truth is that Fullsac's pipe is good, his baffles work and if you buy the TTS you will get a map that is really close for your bike. Some fine tuning may be needed, but not a full dyno session. Steve has done that already. All the people recommending Fullsac can't be wrong. His pipe and baffle combo is cheaper than a complete new exhaust system also. Sick of hearing about it?? Find us someone who does better work and gives more bang for the buck.

I read these posts and I just don't understand.  Well I certainly do understand about the heat - my new 110" CVO RG Ultra puts it out like an oven but the comment in the initial post that the bike in stock configuration runs like crap just confuses me.  :nixweiss:

I'm no gear head and have never done more to my H-Ds that big bore kit on my original 88", and pipes, a/c and sert on my '06 103" and my '07 110".  All of them ran very well but I have to say that the '11 CVO RG Ultra runs very strong bone stock as it is - at least it sure seems so to me.  I mean it is peppy, responsive and quick.  So I don't know what constitutes running like crap.  Perhaps the changes he has already done just doesn't work well.  :nixweiss:

Sounds like a challenge!

To start you need to get rid of the catalytic converter.  You can mod your own header or get an aftermarket.  Simply said you can not, will not get rid of the heat with a giant cork in your exhaust.

Now for tuners you will get a wide variety of opinions.  Make no mistake that each of these sites have there loyalties.  I started with an SSERT and a dyno tune.  I was not happy with the results.  The bike ran just as hot.  How do I know this...I don't, but... I rode with an identical bike that had zero mods and we both kicked down to one cylinder at the exact same time.  Is this an exact measurement of how hot they are running?  Of course not, but it just did not feel any cooler and my oil temps were just as high as before.

I now have a Thundermax with autotune which uses different O2 sensors that allow richer AFR's in closed loop fuel injection.  My bike now starts better, runs cooler and has a he11 of a lot more power than it did with the SSERT.  If you go this direction you will need to order an exhaust for a 2009 so it has the correct location/size O2 bungs for the Tmax.  The Tmax will auto adjust your AFR's depending on many variables, but one variable it uses is engine temp.  The engine gets hotter it gives it more fuel, results lower temp.
You will find that depending on which site you go to there will be lot's of support for one brand or another.

Power commander also has an autotune with different O2 sensors that you will find good reports from those that are using it...not many here using the Tmax or PCV but the ones you hear from with current generation tuners do seem very happy with the results.

Many here who had older versions of the Tmax will tell you it is crap.  My personal experience has been great.

Ask around and see how rich your bike can be tuned "in closed loop" with a stock HD O2 sensor.

Fullsac is strongly supported here because he is outstanding and so are his products.

Just wanted to throw out some options.  Do your home work, many jump on the band wagon and will tell you what works best, but have no idea what they are talking about.
They read it on the internet so it must be true.

I think you will be very happy with the 2.0 baffles and the X-Pipe. There is a very noticable difference in the sound when you lose the cat.

Agreed. My bike ran fine with the stock setup. My sole reason for swapping the header was HEAT!
