As I understand it, using your VIN # you can call H-D Customer Assistance, work your way through their automated system until you get somebody in archives (I believe) track it's date of manufacture and match it up with how many had been produced at that point and then find out how many were built for the entire model year and you'd know what number yours was. You can do this for any vehicle with any Mfgr provided they are willing to spend a little time with you on the phone. The reason this is possible is lawsuits. Say you get hurt in an accident and it comes out that a particular part on your bike was the cause. If you sue H-D, they're going to 1st check to make sure that particular part was installed by them when the vehicle was Mfg'd originally. So they have a very detailed tracking system. Having said all that however, unless H-D designates your particular model as "Numbered Limited Production", being able to say that you have # 350 out of 2400 means nothing. BUT, in years when H-D makes mid-year changes, knowing when your vehicle was built will tell you whether you have a pre change vehicle or a post change vehicle.
