2011 SESG Slip on Exhaust Suggestions
« on: October 23, 2010, 12:28:43 AM »

Primarily i'm looking for a louder, deeper sound, but still able to enjoy the music on the open road, but in parking lot and around town when I pull back on the throttle i want folks to know I was there.  I'd like to just add the slip-ons if thats possible and according to my service tech they wont have to do any tuning.  As you can probably tell I know very little about the engine and exhaust... i just like to get on and ride.

I've looked at the Supertrapp SE Pipes both standard and with the Mikuni cores i'm afraid the Mikuni core may be too loud.  (hard to tell from youtube video)

I've looked at the Vance and Hines Hi-Output slip ons

My dealership leans heavy towards Rinehart but everyone around here has them.

Suggestions?  Feedback?

If you like the look of the stock mufflers, you can go with Fullsac baffles. Do a search on here...plenty of info and lots of people have used them.

You need to get rid of the CAT in the head-pipe.  That alone changes everything. . . .  I'm running V&H power duals with the HO slip-on.  The sound is very deep which is a characteristic of the 110 motor I believe.  While cruising, quite enough to hear the music.  When jumping on the throttle, the bark will definitely get attention.  Numerous comments on how great the bike sounds.  Get out and look and listen to other bikes.  There are some great systems out there and your decision won't be easy.  My choice was based on performance, sound and appearance.  I don't care what they sound like, if they don't look right, they are worthless IMHO!  BTW, I'm still running the stock map as no tuning is needed with just changing the pipes.  However, I will get a dyno tune next month to really dial it in.   :drink:

if you remove the cats and change mufflers you better have it tuned. to say you're going dyno tune isnt going to work, you need a tuner, like tts

I went the V&H Power Duals and 4" Rinehearts.

If you leave the stock head pipe you won't likely get the sound you're looking for.

I was going to go the full sac route be didn't feel like putting in the effort to the get stock baffles out.

Supertrapp makes a couple of models of slip-on mufflers that use the diffuser disk system for flow and sound control.  The megaphones work very well, if you like the looks.  The other set i'm referring to is a internal disk type that has several options for end caps.

The advantage of the Supertrapp disk type is you can change the number of disk plates to make the sound and back pressure you want.   So if its too loud today, it can be quieter in just a few minutes, and vica-versa.  You can check these out at:  www.supertrapp.com  and then choose "find my exhaust" to enter info for your bike.

Hope this helps,

I also have been researching headers and mufflers and a tuner.  I was checking out youtube yesterday and heard the D&D FatCats.  Great Sound!!  Lots of folks like Rinehart's or Bubs.  I am planing on going with FullSac X pipe and muffler cores 1.75" a TTS tuner.  If I don't like the sound I will get the FatCat mufflers.
Keep us posted on what you decide.

Why on the 2" FullSac's?
How is the sound difference? This is my first HOG with music..I want to hear it.  Also I live at 5800' I want the Best low end-mid Torque.  HP means little because I wont be able to use anything at the high RPM's.
I did read the thread about packing the baffles but it seemed to stop.
anyone ever post a vid to hear the FullSac line of baffles on youtube?

Low bass tone, loud enough to sound like a Harley but still easily hear the radio and good performance. Beside, it's the one Steve George (Fullsac) recommended. Ask him in ref your particular concerns. This is a really good exhaust system, esp. for the money. JMO.

Black Diamond; Thanks for you input.

Did you change the plate in your intake?  I forget the name of it?
Thanks

All I had done was the Fullsac X pipe (B version) with their CVO 2" cores using a TTS for tuning. Much cooler running also.
