No Honda Goldwings to be produced in 2011?
« on: October 26, 2010, 12:16:52 AM »

I was talking with my buddy who is a Honda dealer, and he said that Honda is rumored to not be producing any Goldwings for 2011.  Also, that they are supposed to quit producing the Goldwing in the USA.  They were talking about moving production to Japan, but are unsure that they will even open a factory there because of horrible recent sales.  As much as I love Harley, I would really hate to see this happen.  This is not unprecedented, Suzuki did not produce any new street bikes in 2010 from what I understand.  All of the present Suzuki's were all produced in 2009 and titled as 2010's.

Sure is a scary economy out there.

Check out gl1800riders.com for more information.  Honda shut down production here (Ohio) a couple of years ago now, sold some tooling off and moved some tooling back to Japan.... sparking a rumor storm regarding the next gen bike...............

Yes, that is accurate.

I have a few WING friends who have told me this. They gab about what will Honda do next, the same as we gab about what will Harley do next. Same topics, just different brand.

There is talk about a 2100cc replacing the 1800cc - frankly, the 1800 has plenty of power, so I don't see the need (other than a new engine to generate more sales, by having the 1800 guys buy new 2100 bikes) for more power - When my bike was in for engine replacement in July, I rented a WING for 2 days.   The WING power put the CVO power to shame, sorry to say!          But, the Harley has soul - the WING did not move me (other than fastly) if you know what I mean.

The GL1800 is a fantastic bike, we have several in my club and honestly the Wing can't be beat for long distance riding.  But like was said earlier, they have no soul ... or as I like to say they are like riding an electric drill.

I will stick to my Harley thank you very much  :2vrolijk_21:

My guess is that there will be a 2012 Goldwing.  Probably something a little different to spark interest.  The Honda dealers have plenty of 2010's in stock until sometime next year when the 2012's hit the streets.  May be pretty interesting  :nixweiss:

BTW, I now own both... a SEUC and a Goldwing.  The Goldwing will run circles around the SEUC, but like everyone else says, the Goldwing has no soul, it's just a machine... a very powerful and dependable machine, but just a machine.

If Harley could every match the dependability of a Goldwing, they could run Honda out of the touring bike business, but I don't see that ever happening  ;)

Just can't picture HUBBARD on a goldwing.  May be fast, but no Class.  Not to imply Ol' Maudie's faster, I just never could get anybody on a goldwing to keep it twisted from Statesville to Wytheville.  Go figger.  :nixweiss: Later--HUBBARD

No other bike on the road can hold a candle to a Wing with a big ol teddy bear strapped on it!!!!  I never did get that and I have been a Winger for years.  I may very well be one again.  Not dumping my CVO, but I do like the wing too!  Yep, they do get up and go, I miss that in a bike.  If you have not taken one out for a spin, they are fun.  As everyone says, they are different.... but chit they do put the miles behind'em.

The Honda dealers have plenty of 2010's in stock ...

the last Goldwing was produced in July 2009 and only labelled "2010". If there are still lot's of them in stock that's a bad sign for Honda ...

I'm a motorcycle rider, love the wings, new BMW coming out too.  If it has 2 wheels, I like it.  Bought my first HD in 75, have had more than my share of them, also had Wings, Suzuki, honda's......  many many guys here have more than one brand.

They overproduced in 89 -91 also, there are a chit load of 08 - 09s  out there new still.  Gotta clear that stock out before the new ones hit the floor or these older yet new bikes will be worth crap then!!

Latin ?  Where the hell do they speak Latin any more ? Well sometimes the Pope does, but I believe in this case he'd be a Beemer fan and would say " Jedem das Seine "
