Thanks everyone for the prayers and concern.  For those of you who do not know, Randy had an ankle fusion last December where  the ankle was removed and then a plate and screws were inserted to hold his foot to the leg.  He had a checkup & xrays in April and everything was OK.  Then in May, he began having a lot of pain and swelling in the leg/ankle and went to a local doctor for xrays and was told there was no problem and the swelling might last up to a year.  Continued having pain and swelling and then when he went back to the doctor at Duke in October, found the leg was broken!  So it happened sometime between April and October and not exactly sure when.  Anyway, he came through the surgery OK and we are home now.  A rod was inserted from his heel to his knee, he has a cast and can put no weight on it for 6 to 8 weeks.  He's very weak and uncomfortable at the moment.  The big concern is blood clots since he has a history of them following surgery.  I will try to keep everyone updated on his progress.  Again, thanks so much for caring.

Update.............When Randy got up Saturday morning he was having breathing problems and pain in his chest.  I tried all day to get him to go to the emergency room and finally about 5:00PM he agreed.  They kept him in the emergency room for about 6 hours doing blood gases, breathing treatments and chest xrays.  They need to do a VQ scan of his lungs but didn't have the dye needed so have to get it from another town so that is scheduled for 7:00AM.  He didn't want to stay in the hospital but thank goodness Kenny stopped by and we got him calmed down a little and  he was admitted.  I sure didn't know what I was going to do with him at home in that condition.  He's very hard headed as many of you probably already know!  I had planned to stay the night with him but he was put in a semi-private room and they wouldn't let me.  Besides, Fred was in the house and I needed to come home and let him out.  We don't leave him out when it's this cold (24degrees).  I'm only 5 or 6 minutes away from the hospital so won't take long to get back if I'm needed.
