Moma needs new shoes

Kathy needs new shoes on her 05 SEEG

Can't decide on Dunlop 402's, Metzlers 880's, or Michelin Commander

Bike still has stock 16" rims

Give me some opinions

I'm going to try a set of the Pirelli Night Dragons.  Supposed to be very sticky for touring tires but you give up some wear, looks like 6-8000 miles on average for a rear tire.

I did not realize how bad the Dunlop 402's were about following grooves until I bought a bike with a set of them.  I have been on Dunlop Elite 3's for the last 50K or so and think they are excellent tires.  I am only going with the Pirellis because I bought a set of wheels that already had a new Pirelli Night Dragon on the front.

Brian-
FWIW-I liked the 880's over the stock 402's..   Ride and handling.  Wear was also good.  No snaking.  I ran them at 43F and 46R and still rode well.  If you are going to run 36 PSI I would not get as the sidewalls are not as stiff as the 402's.  Metzeler's website advises on the higher pressures that I ran.  I ran almost 50 in the rear with my daughter.   Never tried any other tire.

OK,  my 2 cents:

I have just under ~40k miles on my 04 SEEG.

I have gone back with the stock Harley dunlops 4 times (2 rears for every front) and never really thought much about the tires, until this last replacement.  The front tire was cupping at ~50% tread left.  Never had that happen before.  so, i goe's looking for somthing new, and finally settled on the Michelin Commanders.  The whole feel of the bike is different.  Handles so much better than with the dunlops, i really didnt know what i was missing.  Some might say its not good, but i now regulary scrap my foot boards on the pavment in the turns,  never did that before. It just didnt feel comfortable to lean as much before the michelin's.

There are a lot of good tires out there ..  can’t say yet how the tread is gona last, but its not really one of my big concerns.  I associate tread wear with grip (some may argue with that).  Grip is good.  I can afford tires every other year. Especially now that I have learned to change and balance my own tires. Much cheaper that way.

I only replace my tires with stock. No rhyme or reason, it's just what I have always done.

Dunlop E3.  Great grip, they do not track in the rain groves, and wear is about the same as the 402'S

Went from stock Dunlops ('07 Ultra), to the Michelin Commanders, then to the E3s.

Wouldn't even think of running anything else but the E3s!  They are a great handling tire in all riding conditions, and IMO the tread design is what makes this such a great tire.

The Commanders were a good tire; but IMO the tread design is much like the stock Dunlops.
