Automatic Primary Chain Tension Adjuster
« on: March 21, 2006, 09:20:03 PM »

HD-Dude suggested since I was having the steler install a new hd 6-speed, chrome primary case, etc in my 06 CUSE that I may as well have them install the Automatic Primary Chain Tension Adjuster while they were at it. Sounded like a good idea to me. Check it out at.

Not sure if they have worked the bugs out of them yet. I was ready to install same last fall, service manager told me, "yeah, its a great idea, but I won't sell you one just yet because..." another H-D part not yet ready for consumption.

This is actually a desent part and should be a stock one at that.  It come's standard on at least one model.  I had this installed on my bike during the same upgrades (6-speed and chrome inner) and can tell you it's quieter and it's now real easy to find neutral.  For $99 or less it's worth it.

I agree. Less vibration, no whistle on decel, quieter, neutral pops up a lot easier and far superior to the aftermarket versions - - -  Well worth the $100

LOL...

Mike, I forgot to ask you on Sunday if you notice any difference in the shifting and finding neutral?

"The HD-Dude extended warranty is better anyway".  I liked the MOCO's adjuster because it had a bigger foot for the chain to guide on.  Probably a dumb reason.  I think the only reason some people didn't like the way they adjusted is that they didn't totally read the instructions and get the tensioner set right to begin with.  With the Hayden and M-6 adjusters, I had read on other boards that they make a slight whirring noise-maybe chain to tight.  Anyway if you install the MOCO adjuster or have it done, be sure to ask/keep the directions and the tiny shipping lock if the tensioner has to be removed for primary/clutch work in the future.  If the lock is lost, a tie strap will work.

I have the Hydraulic HB-125 from Southern Hot Bikes ( pix at http://fritz.schiemann.net/HB-125 ) on my present Ultra.  Not sure whether I like it or not... I did read the instructions carefully, and I did adjust it carefully, but it still seems too tight, causing a slight whine.  Maybe I'll try the MoFoMoCo one on my Cuse when it comes.

and you can find them priced as low as $60 plus freight on occassion.

I was readin your post buying your line of reasoning till I read this part dude  ;D

You gotta be in the wrong place if your reason for not buying the MoCo part was money related. The way we encourage each other to go for broke on stuff on this site is a major source of amusement to all of us.   :D

To agree with the rest of your post though, it does seem that the MoCo lets the aftermarket come up with the ideas, pay the freight on the R & D, establish the market for the item and then rip em off. Still, I'm for buying the best product available and IMHO, the MoCo tensioner is a better product.

Have the M6 and love it. Neutral is easy to find and best of all no more chain adjusting. Oh yea over 20000 miles on it, no problems yet.
