Mission #1 complete! On my first mission with the PGR today I met approx. 25-30 of the nicest people you could ask for. We met at a Waffle House around 7:30am left to go to the airport at 8am. Our mission..Welcome home 1st Battalion-178th Field Artillery Unit "The Swamp Fox Battalion" from a 10 month tour in Afghanistan. If you've seen it on TV it is one thing but to witness in person families especially children run to their fathers...well it is pretty damn special. And on a sad note two families of this Battalion lost their heros to IED's. PGR does a wonderful thing and I thank them for letting me join their ranks today. I feel pretty lucky. I'll post some photos soon.

I am a member and the missions I have done at Arlington national Cemetary will stick with me for a long time, just did a mission last week for a local 19 YO marine KIA. 110 bikes showed up for that one, was quite a site going down the road. Be sure to thank a vet, any vet when ya have the chance! :2vrolijk_21: :2vrolijk_21:

Thanks for starting this thread, Roly. I had heard of PGR but didn't know much about them. After reading the posts and looking at the websites, I signed up. As many of you have said, it's the least I could do and I am truly humbled by the sacrifices that so many have made in my name. Looking forward to getting involved!

We are Patriot Guard here too, we did some processions bringing the buses home out my way. Great organization.

That is so sad, he paid the ultimate sacrifice for us and you have those crazy people at that church that create so much grief. They cant even realize that he gave his life for their freedoms.

IMHO they should send all those members over and see how long they protest. I would be betting they would be clinging on to our heros legs asking for help.

Did anyone hear how the law suit went for that family that was in the law suit with them? I know bill orielly was footing the family's legal bill.

I haven't heard anything regarding the law suit, but the turnout for bringing our fallen hero home to his family had a great turnout.  Lots of bikes, California Highway Patrol, about 150 San Jose Police, Fremont Police, Fire Departments on all of the overpasses and along the sides of the roads, and lights and sirens escorting everyone through rush hour traffic from the airport to the funeral home.  Saturday's escort should be similar from the funeral home to the cemetery, which is about 30 miles away.

Appears there will be new missions for the Patriot Guard. The westboro church protesters came to Oklahoma and were met by numerous groups one of which is the Patriot Guard someone (as of yet has not been indentified I do not believe a Patriot Guard member would do this) slashed the tires on their vehicle no tire shop in town would repair or sell them tires they had to call AAA and get their vehicle moved three towns away from the funeral before a Wal-Mart would agree to get the vehicle road worthy again as a result of this action the westboro group has now stated that Oklahoma children are being killed in various ways as punishment therefore they (westboro group) will not target and picket funerals of children. I am sure that the Patriot Guard will add these types of missions to its list of events as needed or requested. Standup guys and girls doing what is right and I am proud to be a member. Would welcome any and all  to come join us.

A bullet should welcome each one of their tires, it will go through both sides and cannot be repaired.

Yesterday's mission went off without a hitch, and I have to say the the Police and Fire Departments showed up with big time support.  Every overpass had them saluting the hearse as we went by, and one FD even set up on the side of the freeway with the ladder extended and the American Flag draped from the top of the ladder.  As usual, a sad, somber event but it was heartwarming to see the support of the community and the military.

I'm glad to see positive comments about the PGR.  I am not a member. May join if I can get good info on the crew near me.  I am a vet.  I have run large military charities.  Sadly, I have seen the "wrong type" attracted to Veteran efforts too (wannabe, nutcase and even the deranged).  So if anyone has a personal contact they can give me for the DC/VA area I'd be grateful.  Good cause -- but I have lost patience with idiots and want to donate my time wisely.  Thnx in advance, DOOFUS

You might have the wrong idea about what the PGR is.... it's not a M/C or a riding club it's a group of riders/people that want to honor those that have given the ultimate sacrifice. If you're interested in participating in a mission sign up to the PGR (Patriot Guard Riders and Virginia Patriot Guard), get on the email list(s) and if your schedule allows show up for a mission. There is no pressure put on anyone to participate it's all volunteer. If you don't show up nothing is said or done and your membership remains. And yes I am a member (#754).

Thnx Fire -- no wrong ideas here about the PGR. In fact, I have no info.  I'm just noting that other similar organizations have had issues with the some of the individuals they attract. That's why I want to meet and chat with a local organizer so I can learn first hand abut the members near me. Thnx in advance, Jim
