Floor Board Lowering
« on: November 17, 2010, 04:32:27 PM »

I really apologize, as I know this topic has been beat into the ground.

I'm 6'4, and 57, and have some bad hips (femur jts) from years of martial arts and MMA.  (yes, I have had my butt royally kicked in the cage and handed to me on a platter)

Someone hear mentioned Foos Products.  The brackets seem like what I want, but appear to be extremely expensive.  I emailed him, but haven't heard a reply.  Does anyone have an actual phone number to call them on?  I would like to see a picture of just the brackets.

By the way, this is a great site, and really enjoy it, especially that I can now post and ask rediculously dumb questions such as this one.

The best,
krav maga

Maybe they'll figure out at some point that they don't have any address or phone number listed on their website.  Their site is under construction and loads very slowly, plus the photos of the brackets don't load at all.  I'm guessing you've already found all of this out, but at least now you know it's not just you that's not finding any useful information on their website.

Gary, it's worth thinking twice (or three or four times) about lower the floorboards.  Boards and mounts are already the first things to hit.  Bringing them lower can make clearance an issue.

Assume you have the boards in their lowest mount position to begin with.  Just in case, however, will mention the obvious.  There are three holes in the frame for the board mounts.  Worth making sure yours are in the lowest mounting holes.

Other consideration is the saddle.  The stock SERG saddle doesn't sit up too high. When I put the Corbin saddle on mine it raised me up quite a bit compared to the stock seat.

Glad you mentioned that because I thought the same thing and forgot to type it in.  I would think you'd be scraping all the time with them any lower.  They don't seem to mention anything about that concept on their website.

Actually, I am thinking about making some brackets, and just removing the floor boards entirely.  I'll then go to footpegs with stirupps, as I find the feet postion much better, and doesn't lock my feet into one postion.  I did this before and it worked great.

than for the comments

I have floorboard extensions on as well as I lowered the front 1" and the rear 3/4", even though all these great people told me NOT to. While cleaning last year I noticed that when I was scraping in the good corners that I wasn't hitting the boards, but the mounts! Not good hitting a hard piece and not the flexable board. Careful....

... I had a 99 RKC that had been lowered 1 1/2inch's when I bought it. I HATED it being lowered! No matter how careful we rode it was always dragging on stuff. Knocked the oil cooler hose off once in Helen, GA on a speed hump that I went over very slow. Lost count the number of times the kickstand was knocked off, had to start keeping spare spring in saddlebag. It looked cool lowered, but it was a Bitch to ride. Maybe some forward controls would work out for you.

Floor Board Lowering...Part 2
« Reply #7 on: November 24, 2010, 12:50:23 PM »

First of all, thanks for the input on floorboard lowering.  With my height and wear and tear from martial arts and MMA, I just can't ride for long periods of time with me legs bent up.

My first post was about lowering my floorboards, and many responded about dragging in corners.  I also looked at the Foos lowering kit, but just didn't want to drop $440 on something I thought I could fix myself.  So, here is what I did, step by step.

1.  I removed the floorboards and brackets completely from the bike.  Just leaving the mounting holes on the frame.
2.  Threw the floorboards and mounts in a box.
3.  I removed the HD passenger peg mounts from the bike, this is HD part number 50198-97B
4.  I then mounted the left peg mount on the right side of the bike, using the stock holes.  The peg mount has a stud and hole that fit perfectly in the stock harley floorboard
     mounting holes.
5.  I mounted the right passenger peg mount on the left side of the floorboard mounting holes, and bolted both sides down completely.
6.  I ordered Kury. pegs with stirrups.
7.  Checked the height, and lowered my foot position by 3.5 inches, and moved it about 2" or so forward.
8.  Measured the brackets, and they hang no lower than the stock floorboard mounts did.
9.  I realize that I got rid of the floorboards, but with the customization I did, they look great.  Plus, I actually have more leg movement with the pegs than the floorboards.

This was a very easy fix, and only took about 30 minutes from start to finish.    It sure worked for me.

I'll post photos soon.  I am doing some more work on the SE3R.  I rode with the new pegs mounted, and they were great.  I've got some new color co ordinated parts to put on along with a different seat, cutting the handlebars, and a few other things.  This was really a cheap and easy fix for me to get my legs stretched out.
