Sturgis is a great idea for a Western GTG.  Unfortunately there is already a GTG out West for 2011 in Lake Tahoe so maybe the planning should be for a GTG in 2012 near Sturgis.

Cheers, Moe

I agree......the week before Sturgis and we might be lucky enough to get everybody booked in one town.  I gotta have a bed though.......these ol bones are allergic to the ground. :nervous:

There is a small town just outside of Rapid City called New Underwood there on I-90. It is a gas station, restaurant, laundry mat, bar and convenience store. He also has a small motel that has about 10 units. This is not a Holiday Inn by any means but for the people that do not want to spend a lot of money it is great and the camping is or was free. The best I can remember it's called Steve's you just take the New Underwood exit and your there. The last time I was there was in 08. He does not jack prices during bike week, you can forget renting a room during bike week but like I said the camping is free and he does cater to bikers and if you don't want to ride the interstate to Rapid City there is a county highway that will take you right there.

They have hotels in Sturgis ?

WOW, when did that happen.

I've been there 5 times. 1st trip was in 1985, last in 2004.

Camped out 4 and stayed in a private home in Rapid City my last time.

In 93 I went spent the day at the Chip, did not camp there, but it was fun, VERY senic if you know what I mean.  Actually thinking about camping there this year, just for the hell of it...   3 or 4 days would be enough for me, as I am an old fart, can't party like I did back in the 70s, well not if I want to get up within the next 2 days anyway.    Any CVOers planning on doing the Chip??  (new thread??)
