Anyone running the Stock mufflers and a Fullsac X pipe?
« on: December 16, 2010, 09:40:34 PM »

I'm doing some exhaust research in anticipation of a January delivery of a FLTRUSE.
In reading the threads for the Fullsac X pipe I didn't see anything listed about running the X pipe and the stock mufflers.
I'm going on the thought that getting rid of the cat should make the stock mufflers sound better and help eliminate some of the extra heat. Eventually I'll be putting a tuner on it to get the air fuel ratio where it should be.

I have tried the FS X-pipe with the stock muffs.  Nice sound, not very loud, but you can still hear it at cruising speed.  BUT...its not just the elimination of the cat thats going to lose the heat.  A properly tuned ECM will do as much for what happens next and henceforth as much or more than anything else.  Plus, the stock fuel mapping is set for lots of backpressure, and will go lean(already VERY lean stock) in many areas of operation if component changes are made.

Me, Myself and Irene would buy a fueler before we bought anything else....nearly.

But to get it right, all three need to get it right:  fueling, intake, exhaust.

Food for thought, and my .02

Your thoughts would be correct, however, it's only a small amount of what you COULD do to address the issue of heat and performance.
The latest stock touring mufflers actually have a nice tone and are "balanced" left to right as far as back pressure is concerned.
You may want to consider dong the whole change at one time. JMHO

This is a stock baffle (bottom) out of a 2009 110 CVO muffler vs the Fullsac 1 3/4" baffle

Thanks everyone. I'll probably leave it stock until I gather all the parts and update everything at one time. Heat shouldn't be a problem until sometime in March when my world here in SE PA. gets out of the winter freeze and we start getting some decent weather.
The big question was about the stock mufflers. I like the look of the stock muffler and changing out the stock core for a Fullsac 2 inch core looks like the way to go and save a bunch of money in the process. I had the V&H Monster ovals on my 08 RG and really liked them but if I don't need to drop another $500 right away, that will be great.
So far from all the threads I've been reading, a TTS Master Tune, Fullsac X-Pipe and 2 inch Fullsac muffler cores will be a great combination.
I wish these forums were around when I bought my 02 Deuce. I put on 4 different exhaust systems before I found something I could live with.
Again, Thanks for the replies and I'm looking forward to getting my new scoot.
Last word is that the ship date has been moved up 4 days!  :huepfenjump3:
As long as there isn't any ice on the ground, I'll be out for a cruise, heated gear set on vaporize!

Hey congrats on the purchase- the waiting will sure make the winter drag on even longer, lol. And yes, the TTS/Fullsac combo works well, and is economical- you should be happy with it.

I don't know where in SE PA you are located but I took 2010 SEUC to Daves Cycle Works in Bethlehem. He did the tuning on my bike and it runs awesome. Get in touch with me and I can tell you more.

Just FYI. When I purchased my SEUC in June, I wanted to take my time and choose my pipes carefully and like you I was really loving the looks of the OEM mufflers. I got a good deal on a 09 catless headpipe, so I didn't have to buy the X-pipe. Anyway my point is I went ahead and installed the catless headpipe and was running the OEM mufflers until I could decide which combo to use. (Used Fullsac 2.25") To my ear the catless pipe w/OEM cans sounded only a little louder. It as a little better but nowhere near what I wanted. The Fullsac's sound great and for now I am happy with them, but they were nowhere near as loud as I expected them to be. Just sayn if they had been louder I would have been cool with the sound.

Concerning the FS baffles:  even they can be toned down a little by some additional fiberglass high-temp wrap and use of the existing screen material.  Figure you've been here, but, anyway:  http://www.cvoharley.com/smf/index.php?topic=28920.0
