Ahh, the benefits of a short memory. Now the problems are the result of moving the assembly process from a converted hallway/conference room to the real assembly line with proper tooling. I don't think so. Go back a few years and read all the posts from folks concerning all the paint issues, the loose fastener issues, the improperly adjusted components issues, etc. All of that was with the "hand built" assembly process.
My experiences were that my regular Harley came though in 1999 with perfect cosmetics and no parts falling off or maladjusted. My '05 CVO on the other hand came with more cosmetic and functional defects than any new vehicle I've ever purchased in my life.
Face it, the quality issues are much more deeply rooted than just where they are bolted together. It's a total shame that this sort of stuff gets out the door even on the regular models, and there is no excuse for H-D letting this stuff out the door on their overpriced flagship models. And I would also question why any dealer would deliver such a product to his customer without first finding and fixing all of these obvious issues first. The entire quality system for Harley, from procurement to manufacturing to assembly to the dealers seems to be broken. Damned shame.
