Ordered FULLSAC (but dealer likes VH)
« on: December 29, 2010, 01:38:14 PM »

I did my research - I like what I was picking up about FULLSAC header pipes. I ordered them today.  While at my dyno guy today, he agreed that FULLSAC are very nice and will be fine for my style of hiway riding with the VH Monster Ovals, the SERT and the Zipper AC.  But when I went to Parts, gent there said, "oh no, you want VH power chamber headers, not FULLSAC."  10 minutes of "discussing" later, I said, "ya know what, I'll order the FULLSAC myself".  Thnx goodness they are NOT a dealer that requires u to buy all parts there.  Anyway, FULLSAC on the way.  DOOFUS

Your dealer does not make as much money if you order from Fullsac.   :coolblue:

For what it's worth, I once met one of the owners of V&H and told him what my dyno numbers were with Fullsacs.  He was impressed.   :nixweiss:

I find most shops have never heard of Fullsac, which tells me they aren't up on the latest things, and aren't in the know. So, they just feel free to recommend what they know, without comparing it against all the options out there.

That is pretty much my experience also.  When we moved to AZ & I was looking for a decent dealer (there are lots in the area) I was very dissapointed in talking with the parts & sales people.  I have found that there isn't a lot of experience residing in the folks in the dealerships here.

I strike up a conversation and ask questions of them like:
How long have you worked here
Where were you before here
What do you ride

I get the strangest answers like:
Been here about 6 months
Sold cars before this
Don't have a MC but I hope to get one soon

I pulled in a couple weeks ago, right up front & there were 2 sales people sitting outside & 1 standing closer to the parking lot.  When I waked past him I said hi, how are you, he said great, how do you like your new SESG.  (Duh, I ride an 06 Ultra CVO in the Autumn Haze) ok, could be an easy mistake since it looks like new.

As I walked up to the building another one of the sales guys says, nice bike, where did you get the custom paint job done.

When I was getting the front wheel bearings replaced under warranty on Trudy's 09 Ultra the service guy said, that really sounds nice, what mufflers do you have on it.  Didn't even recognize that there were HD CVO Mufflers (of course the Fulsac cores & sound could have thrown him)

Maybe I just think they should know more, my expectation are pretty high.  So far I have not been able to find a Metal Dragon, a Yuill Bros or a Fullsac here in the Phonix area, pretty sad.  There are a lot of MC's here, someone could do very well with a good reputation.

Just sayin.....

Wag - I can top that dealer stupidity. My first CVO was the one you have.  Nice bike of course. In 08 pulled into a VA Beach area dealer - just looking around while on a trip.  Kid there - in sales - tried selling me a new ride.  I said, "Tell ya what, If you can tell me the model, year and displacement of my current ride parked out there -- I will buy my next bike from you."  He said, "that's an ultra with a 95 inch and you had it painted."  I said No, its an 06 CVO.  The kid F O U G H T me forever and WOULD NOT admit it was a CVO 2006.  Gotta laugh.

Had to replace a tire in ABQ last summer, same discussion except the service mgr. was bragging what the numbers were on a 103 they just tuned. I happened to have my dyno sheet in the pizza box at the time. I never showed him as not to embarrass him!! LOL Same basic build, except I had the CVO mufflers and TTS tune.
I WAS IMPRESSED, better curves across the chart!  :2vrolijk_21: :2vrolijk_21:

i had a salesman once try to get me to purchase a different model than what i had researched and given a lot of thought on and here he comes and says i wouldn't be happy with the model i was buying and that he rode a (whatever) and i'd be sorry and all that malarky.
well long story short, whenever i walk into the store now i don't so much look his way.
when a guy tells me what i want and i've put a lot of thought process into something else, i take that as an insult and that guy can go pound sand as far as i'm concerned.

Unfortunately, there is no law that says the people at dealerships have to know their stuff.  When I started mentioning the heat problems on the FLTRUSE to the service manager where the bike was purchased, he responded "thats funny, I've never heard of the 110's having any overheating problems".  ALL of my fears were confirmed at that point.  Really, coming from him, this didn't surprise me, because he was the one that smurfed up my nice stainless license plate hardware by using pliers and the wrong size screw driver on the bike I traded in.  MORE proof that I need to keep spinning my own wrenches.  I wouldn't even let these boy scouts do an oil change.

As for GMR performance in Prescott, good people.  I've bought some engine components from him from time to time. He has the reputation of being a good engine builder and tuner.  He has a dyno and seems to know what he is talking about.

No overheating problems in AZ? If these bikes are  not going at least 30 mph they are hot. I split traffic even though it is only legal in So Cal. Ask for forgiveness rather than permission! These bikes need to be in the wind to be close to cool.

I have some stories also! Some are similar to other posts, I won't bore you today. I will just say my local stealer and most of the hired help are clueless also. I will say it does tick me off when I say I need this part number "whatever the number may be" and they want to know what bike I want to put it on and then they waste my time checking the "book" it won't fit that model. I say I know but it's the part I need do you have it in stock or not. They look at me like I have two heads... Do you guys get that also or is it just me? Just when I learn someones name they are gone and somebody new is behind the counter.
