Yea Brian I know what you mean.  The extended warranty (service) agreement and the Magnussen Moss Warranty Act have been beat to death here (and other forums).

I can only say that my personal experience is that my motor work has never came into question on the factory warranty or the extended warranty......not here in Nor Cal, not in Idaho and not in Missouri (two other locations that I've had warranty work done).  And, I don't know of anybody here in Nor Cal that their motor work has prevented them from a warranty claim.  The only thing I can think is that the Nor Cal dealerships follow the intent of the Magnussen Moss Warranty Act (if the failure is not directly related to the modifications, then they have to honor the warranty). :nixweiss:

JC  I agree with you 100% but the motor in LD was basically a ground up build by the local H-D dealership using all SE parts. San Diego H-D has ONE and only one tech that's worth a chit and that tech builds all of the owner's bikes so I got the service manager to agree to have him do the build and then followed it as he did the work to be sure. There wasn't much that could fail that hadn't been upgraded or changed. They told me what you're saying above, but when I looked at everything I was having done, it was just not worth the money to buy the ESP if all those items were not being covered.

Had missed this thread until now.  Condolences on the dead bike Tommy.  That royally sucks.  Noticed in the little pic showing the cams themselves that the bike in the background appeared to have exhaust and cam cover back on it.  Different bike or had the shop done some reassembly?

Had it disassembled and buttoned back up at an independent shop then trailered to the dealer that has the bike I'm looking at.

A lot of hassle no matter how it works out.  Good luck on getting to a final choice that makes you happiest with the ride :2vrolijk_21: .

Good Eye Don, was wondering the same, thought there might be more to come ya know.

Why button it back up without the cam plate and cams etc as nothing to hold these parts in place?   Also looks like the stock pipe is back on the bike  :nixweiss:

It was raining the day Truck trailered it to the dealer.  He didn't want water to get into the motor, as if that matters at this point!

Had read about that bike.  Love all the details.  But god that bug eyed thing is ugly coming at you.

Don't worry about that, all we'll see are the tail lights!

I just got done buying a new bike and all I can say is do not believe a thing the dealers say about prices. I saw a $4500 price difference between dealerships and they all said they were selling for MSRP. I got tired of it and went on the the HD web site and if you look at the specification page of the bike you want all the prices are listed there. All that is missing is dealer prep charges and HD gives them 2 - 3 hours for that. With the numbers for tax and license from the DMV web site I went back and made offers on price out the door for what I wanted. Ended up about $3000 lower than any previous offers, so buyer beware and they are plenty of dealers willing to deal to get a sale.

Tommy,

Very sorry for your loss.  I suspect this will turn out alright though.  $.02, I saw the new 6 cylinder BMW at the international bike show...  UGLY!  I bet that if the numbers are you close, your experience has soured you on this bike.  Which of course means, GET THE NEW ONE! !  Good luck!

Tommy, I just hit 41K. Does that mean I will have the "opportunity" to go shopping in the near future? Oh, that's right...I've still got 34 months and 27 26 days left on my "service" agreement.

Seriously, sorry to hear about your mishap.

condolences  :(

I have parts that look exactally like that

so do I from my 05 103 FLHRCI. Virtually each and every part within the oil circuit ruined.

I bought myself a new one (09 FLHTCUSE4) and I'm exttremely pleased with the decision. The new frame and ABS alone are worth it. I will buy the extended warranty they offer over her since last year for sure  ;)

And I had the cam bearings in the new bike changed to the SE version  ;D
