Wow Lou, that's really cool. Matt and I had planned on riding up on Sunday for a visit.
I don't think I'll have a new tire on by then. Maybe Linda and I will run up in the Mitsu rocket sled.

Wish I could share some words of wisdom as to how to handle this type of event but all I know is what I have read.  No experience to share.  Thank you GOD!

All I can share is that I am pleased to read that no one was injured, the bike is well and life will continue...

I trust you will be provided with the answers you seek...

Thanks for all the kind words. I honestly think having had the same thing happen in the past (to disastrous results) was a huge factor in my doing the right things. Funny story about that. When I crashed outside Toronto as I was going down I yelled "Oh chit "  and then tumbled down Highway 401 during the evening rush hour for about 1/2 mile. I got banged up good and probably suffered a concussion (yes even with a helmet) as I don't recall a lot of what happened immediately after the accident. What I remember is being in the ER and thinking to myself - - I've got to be prepared the next time. I can't have my last words on earth be Oh chit. I mean think about it. I crash, I die and there I am at the Pearly Gates. St Peter is looking at me and shaking his head saying " Brian, I'm sorry, but the password to God's Kingdom is not Oh chit "

congrats to your third bithday  ;)

Happened to me twice, both times nails on polish countryroads. Gratefully so as there you don't drive fast anyway so I just let her roll out  ::)

The dangerous thing is when the tire is slowly deflating you may not realise the cause immediately if you never experienced that funny feeling before ...

Good to read all is well Brian. I had an incident where the tire on my SERG was deflating slowly with my bride on the back. Long story short ... coming off a stop sign ... making a left hand turn ... chasing two RK's ... I was 3rd coming off the corner.

No idea the tire was going flat  :vrolijk27: Grabbed a handful to chase my riding buddies down and all hell broke loose. '09 SERG prolly looked like a fish outta water ... flopping back and forth. Got her settled down and to the roadside. My wonderful wife says "gooood job honey"  :huepfenlol2: I hated to but I had to tell her I had nothing to do with keeping the scoot up. Nothin' but divine intervention!!  :D ;)  New skivvies and a cold  :drink: and all was well in the world again.  :2vrolijk_21:

These low profile tires are tough to evaluate for a slow leak. Almost as if I had no indication till it was almost too late  :nixweiss:

Interesting.

Was at the Harley shop yesterday and was told they are seeing more and more people riding on tires till the wires or cords are showing.
Calls from people to have the shop come pick up their bikes because a tire is bald and flat have doubled.
With only 2 tires to keep us alive, parking it till new tires can be installed would seem prudent.
The economy may suck but riding on bald tires can kill you.

So glad this one didn't cause you to go down Spiderman.  And thanks for the great write-up/evaluation of the situation.  I had two rear flats this year, one on the softtail and one on the dresser.  Neither time was I going as fast as you, but both caused quite a scare.  They always do.  I wonder if Randy has ever had a flat on his run-flat police tires and how they handle when punctured?  Not the kind of riding experience one wants to garner, but....it's all part of riding, sooner or later.  I like to learn from others via this site to hopefully avoid learning the hard way how to better avoid the pain.  Thanks for sharing.  :2vrolijk_21: spyder

Just to be clear ... I had about 4k on my bike at the time. Found a tiny puncture when all was said and done. I share this story just to point out the un-obvious visual effect a slow leak has on a low profile tire. Sorry to  :jack: BB ... just thought it a good opportunity to share an experience that may help someone down the road!!
