I've had my SE comp on my 110 motor for about 13K miles now with NO problem....starts better than when it was new.  I did have a comp release fail early on which MAY have affected the original compensator/starter.  HD put in a new starter and clutch basket with the SE comp.

Now, with a 255 cam, you want to talk about lifters??  Mine crapped out at 41K miles.

Beemer

You have 2 issues.

1)  As far as working with you, your dealer sucks. You can call it the motor company but your dealer has flexibility to change it and has chosen to not.

Have to agree, my dealer replaced my RK's compensator with the SE part under warranty at no cost to me.

is the oil issue that it never gets any oil in it? or that even if the oil is in there it doesn't do anything?

would it pay to soak in oil prior to installation?

From the looks of my first primary oil change after my dealer put in the SE comp and other parts, they must have coated it all in moly disulfide grease.

Grooving the back side of the SE compensator chain gear, in 3 places, inline with the Spokes down the boss to  the splines, will allow Some lube to get inside... The centrifugal force tosses all the other stuff OUT in time.. One rider stated that his copper grease was gone next time he took it apart and the Fretting was there again (red rust looking) on his SE comp... Then he Grooved the SE,, put it together,, saying it did sound better, Less  Noise and that seemed to Smooth it out some..

time will tell. :cherry:

I'm wondering how anyone can claim that ATF isn't compatible with the SE Compensator?  Since they currently fail with pretty much any type or brand of fluid, how can anyone back that claim up with facts?  Is someone out there running fully instrumented and controlled tests I haven't heard about?  Or is it just one more case of "I read it on the internet so it must be true"?  Since I haven't tested any of this, I'm not saying it is or isn't true.  But since I'm quite familiar with what ATF withstands in automotive transmissions, I find it very hard to believe it can't stand up to the relatively simple operation of that compensator mechanism.  Fix the underlying design issue, and I imagine the problem will go away no matter what fluid is used.

Just relaying what is on  HTT forum and the results other have tried different fluids, I do agree ATF  should work no matter what  due the evironment its designed for.  I d like to try B&M TRICK SHIFT just havent gotten to it yet.  I believe on that forum aft still leads to fretting in the sprocket bore and but certain 20-40 products  dont  but many carbon/kevlar plates are recommended to be used with ATF

NOW, this is just TALK I've listened to about ATF compared to the Other Lubes used in the primary... My favorite is Redline MTL

How much Lubrication does ATF have???? lube is needed to address the Strong SE Spring Washers used on the Compensator... I Don't know anything about your special clutches Though..

I use Redline MTL(many bikes and years) and it does have a lubrication quality BUT Does ATF have the same Lube quality?
I really don't know, I do like the MTL, i use it in my bikes and on a Dyna hot rod have put over 117,000 miles. A 2000FXDS Built (+100 T and +100 HP) with a  6 speed gear set,  USING the SAME Stock Original clutch it came with,,,, with No Problems... I really Never thought the stock clutch would give me that kind of TIME with the hopped-upped FXDS.

I also HEARD on the net, that redline primary also left the Fretting on the SE comp...

I agree that this is ALL Premature as NO Proper TEST has been done....

Your THOUGHTS?

:cucumber: I don't want a Pickle,,,, Just wanta ride my motor cyyyyyy-ickle !

How many miles on these SE comps that show fretting?  I have about 12K miles on my SE comp....so far, all is quiet and well.
