How many problems with bikes
« on: January 07, 2011, 01:37:28 PM »

Had two oil leaks one from the trap door, one from oil cooler. Neck bearings were out of adjustment chooped up front tire had to replace with 8,000 miles. Clutch failed with fifteen miles. Starting to think about trading in on a 96in bike with no thrills. Bike only has 13,000, what do I have to look forward in fixing next.

Your certainly not alone. There is alot of us here that have had problems with our bikes. When I bought my CUSE in April '08 , I had all kinds of warranty issues, I could list them all here but I choose not to go into it.  I too, considered the possibilty of swapping mine out on a new bone stock Ultra. My bike was in the shop every two weeks for a week or more, for 2 years straight, no lie. Talk about customer dissatisfaction. The long and the short of it, is that I hung in there and worked with the dealer to fix all of my issues. Now, almost 3 years have passed since I bought my bike, and I couldn't be more happier with it, I have no more issues, and she runs great. I have to admit, with all the great looking bikes that have came out over the last couple of years, I've thought about trading her in, but seeing how I'm alot happier now, I think I'll just keep what I got for the time being. I guess what I'm trying to say, is try to give your dealer some time to sort things out, and don't be so hasty to throw in the towel just yet, and maybe things will work out for you in the end as well. Good luck. JohnT.

I had a few issues the first year.  I had the rear cylinder head replaced due to pourocity. Spelling?  Anyway there was a recall on the ignition switch, and the front motor mount.  I have replaced the front rotors twice now.  They seem to last about 15,000 miles each time, and I baby the hell out of my front brakes.  I recently had the newer style hydraulic cam chain tensioners and the new style primary chain tensioner installed at 32,000.

The direction I'm trying to head here is once I was past the first year bugs I haven't had much to complain about.  I feel confident I'll have this bike until I hit 100,000 miles.

In case I didn't mention it my bike is an 06 with the 103 motor.  I have kept it completely stock.  Well I did add highway pegs and a taller windshield.

Good luck to you.  Don't give up too soon.

The 103 is a great engine.  Wish I had not traded my 06 103 for the 08 110 that I have now.

I had an '07 with the 110 and some of the problems with those early 110 engines, but I thought that HD had the issues worked out by '09.  Am I wrong in assuming that the majority of the 110 problems go back a few years?
