I was able to return the Kury I bought since the packaging was still in tact.

I decided to see if rhey could order the new Kury CVO products since the deler is in line with them.  The order was accepted at Kury so we'll see if it shows up next week.

I got the plain LED frame and the backing plate.  I'll be ready to trim that chrome piece off immediatly if necessary.
Regards

Jerry

Jerry, will you take before and after pics please?

Are you talking about this one?

http://www.kuryakyn.com/Products/4146/Lighted-Curved-Laydown-License-Plate-Mount

No I am going to try p/n 3144 and 3146.   I want to remove that chrome trim/tab on what looks to be the upper side of the backing plate.

It should be plug and play just like your Yaffe is.  We'll see.

Hey Fireguy.
I really like  the look of the new curved plate surround  :2vrolijk_21:
I don't want to sound stupid , but where is your rear stop light ?
I live in Australia , (like Glenpick above) , so we have a large ugly stop light fitted above the plate? Glen has changed his but I was looking for something integrated with number plate . Kury make one , but stop light is fairly small.
Any ideas ?

The vertical lights in the fillers are the stop lights, running lights, and directionals in the US.

Jerry let me know as well.  I'm interested in seeing how it looks with the tab removed.

I tried to order just the frame and it showed up as Low or No Stock from Kuryakyn's website.

I have made a prototype backplate with rough dimensions, since I do not have the frame yet or my bike, and it looks like it will work perfectly.  Made it out of mild steel to start with for proof of concept.  Final one will be stainless steel, have the corner holes taped to accept the screws from the Kuryakyn frame, and the center 2 holes countersunk for flat head machine screws to attach it to the fender.  I can then just use spacers and rubber washers between the backplate and fender to adjust the amount of spacing of the frame off of the fender.

GREAT JOB!!

If I were you I'd save that final pattern and be ready to sell a few to the guys here.

I think your design will move the frame and plate even closer to the fender which is a good thing. As a lesson learned by me, don't allow the frame to touch the clearcoat and paint if at all possible.  As discussed here many times the clearcoat that Harley uses is still very soft and the frame will leave a permanent depression in it.

MY ORDER--I was standing there when they completed the transaction online with Kury and it went through. However, when I talked with the Kury customer Support person a few days prior to my order, he said that the parts weren't available until October.  We'll see.

Regards

Jerry

Well boys it looks like my prophacy is coming true.

I purposely waited 2 weeks from my last post to ask the HD dealer when the new and improved curved tag bracket would be coming in.

Kurakyns Answer----4-6 weeks from now OR BIKETOBERFEST 10/12 - 10/16.

So I'll be stopping by the "Kury" Trailer to see the two models first hand.

I'll keep you posted...

UPDATE:  I just went on the Kury site and they have now posted the installation instructions for all 3 pieces.
So according to the Kury person I talked with when I called their Customer Service center a few weeks ago, the actual product should be available "shortly thereafter" whatever that means.

In any event, once you read the install instructions and look over the supporting pictures, those that are interested in this new addition can restart the debates on what it will look like on our bikes.

IN MY OPINION--I'm convinced more than ever after reading the instructions and looking at the supporting pictures that the chrome decorative top tab attached to the backing plate will need to be removed (dremel tool) to make me happy.

If you look at the installation instructions that chrome piece on top of 3144 is more than just a tab.  It looks to be pretty big from the side and i cant see how it could be removed.  I have it on order but may cancel.  Can the Kury 9182 be mounted without drilling the fender??

Yes and No.  On the 9182 you will either have to drill the backing bracket or the fender. It sits a little further out from the fender and needs to be aligned horizontally very carefully to ensure that the frame covers the stamped impressions in the fender.

On my 2010 CVO Street Glide I mounted just the frame to the fender and carefully contoured it to the fender curve.

On my 2012, I was hoping for a clean bolt on, prewired install product from Kury but.....

Thanks CVOStreetglide.  What did you do about the wiring?  did you get proper connectors or just splice into wiring.  I guess I could cut the plug off the factory light and join it to the Kury 9182.

Any one have pictures with it mounted without drilling the fender.
Thanks

WITH THE KURY 9182, I pinned mine and bought a connector. Others cut the connection and soldered it onto the Kury wire.

IF YOU FLUSH MOUNT THE FRAME--You will be drilling at least 2 holes in the fender--no way around it.

IF YOU USE THE BRACKET--You will need to EITHER drill the FENDER to accept the predrilled holes in the bracket OR you will have to drill the BRACKET to accept the predrilled holes in the fender-- 2 holes minimum.

Jerry

X2..although I have heard that some states do not like that it blocks the corners of the lic plates. I have not had any problems in NY with the Yaffe frame.
