Scooters.......Huh,  Yup I know the place and it was one of my favorite biker stops when I lived up there.  In fact,  they put my 93 Wide Glide on the floor and sold it for me for (at that time,  a $500 commission) and I made out pretty good back then.

Later on,  they changed to a (percentage) on selling other peoples bikes as they (Scooters) got burnt on a couple of deals where the starter went out  right after the next owners purchase and of course the (new) owner bitched to Scooters looking for some $$$ relief.....and they rolled over to save/maintain their reputation.......thus the (end) of the $500 deal to sell your bike!!!!!

I agree you happened to be there at the wrong time with some azzhole present then too.  Normally,  I would not have expected that kind of problem at that spot.

Saw one the other day that had .` "Happy Birthday M****F****R" written with a knife on top of the saddle bag lid. Tank hammered as well as the fenders and all the lights. The seat looked like it was clawed by bear with all the cuts and holes punched in it. The fairing had a big X dug in it also. Gauges didn`t fairwell with  the hammer attack eather. :beatdeadhorse:

Doesn't mean you can't find a way to even the score. There's worse things that can happen to somebody than physical injury. Do you have a teenage daughter ? Ask her "what's the absolute most embarassing thing you can imagine happening to you that you would die if your friends knew "  - - - -and take it from there. Everybody has a soft spot cwright, you just have to find it sometimes

Barney - Im not saying im against this practice, i don't do it and I could care less of anyone else doing it, but did you, by chance, park your bike on the sidewalk??? I see this practice a lot and depending on how its done it tends to piss people off,, Awhile back i actually saw a guy, while he was making stupid comments about the bike being on the sidewalk spit on the bikes mirror. The bike was a sport bike and it was parked near the entrance of a Traget department store. In fact people actually had to walk around the bike to get through the store entrance. Please dont get me wrong, im not trying to pick on you, just pointing out a possibility   :nixweiss: :nixweiss: This is a pisser and im real sorry this happend to you..

I can't answer for Barney, but will bet that was not at all part of the problem since this is a Biker Bar and dealership also connected to it.  Normally many more bikes than cars would be there plus it's on a dead-end street and no other businesses are beyond it to be bothered by where bikes might be parked.

Hey Barneyfife, sorry to read this thread with your damage.  I'm in goldsboro just down the road and have parked right where you rec'd. your fairing damage I'm sure.  It happens more than we wish, but it's no worse than the stupid drivers backing into our scooters, or running over us while talking on a cell phone, etc.....Hope to see you at Maggie Valley this year or maybe at Scooters. Who's your insurance with?  Foremost will not raise your premium on a 1st occurance if you have them & file a claim.  Glad you didn't walk out and see them & end up in jail.   :2vrolijk_21: spyder

Greetings,

The event that started this thread makes us all want to kick the crap outta the ass monkey that did the deed.  I'm one of those anal fools that, even with two bad knees, park way out in any parking lot just so I don't have to deal with people bangin' their doors into me.   Invariably, some other ass monkey, or worse ass monkeys, park beside me anyway.  This even though there are 10 spaces open going towards what ever establishment you are going to.  I agree with others in that for what ever reason some people cannot stand the thought of someone else having anything nice.  Cars, bikes, doesn't matter someone driving a piece of crap will always park next to your good lookin' ride.

This story really doesn't have much to do with this thread, but I recalled it while reading the different things people posted here.
This happened back in the late 80's and we should have nominated the guy for the Darwin awards. Seems this guy we all knew decided to take his girlfriend to Daytona but he didn't want his wife to know about it so he told wifey he had to go away for a week on business and left his H-D in it's usual spot in the garage. He and the girlfriend flew to Daytona and rented a bike for the week. So far so good and from what we heard, the guy was even bragging about getting away with it at Bank and Blues on Main St in Daytona over beers. But one of his wife's friends spotted him in Daytona and called he girl to let her know she was being done wrong. The wife never called the husband, never said a word to him. He gets home from Daytona, all his stuff is in the driveway in a frozen heap (early March in Maine - -fughedaboutit) And his bike is also in the driveway with the headlight, tailight, directionals, speedo, and tach smashed. The tank and fenders she beat with a ball peen and she took a knife to the seat. She even slashed the tires (of course) Oh yeah and she called their insurance company and told them what she'd done (you can legally vandalize your own property) so he couldn't put in a claim on it. I don't think a one of us thought anything bad of the wife - - - - mostly how stupid the guy was (too many ways to list)

PS - - - no it wasn't me. Somebody once told me that all that life required was to be smarter than what it is you're trying to do and 99.99% of the time I've managed to live by that.

No, it was parked out in the parking lot, with three other bikes, and a few cars further away.  I'd never park a bike (or car, for that matter) where people would have to go around it to get into, or out of, a store or bar/restaurant.  To me that's just asking for trouble.  I just happened to be at the wrong place at the wrong time.  It could have been anywhere, but it just happened to be there on that day.  It's all good, I didn't catch him or her in the act, so I didn't shoot anyone.  (I have a CCW and I carry)  So hopefully I've gotten my quota of bad stuff out of the way on this bike.  Sure hope so, 'cause I sure love this new one.

Seems like a lot of work and risk for a motorcycle worth no more than 10 cents on the dollar to a fence. What else got stolen in this robbery. You're talking real professional theives here, they must have been after more than just the bike - - - -UNLESS, the security guard took the bike.

Yea, thats who I think took it as well ...everybody says the guards..or someone they knew.....the security camera...showed a male...could not see his face or hands ... had a hoody up...coming thru the pedestrian gate with a key at 2:21 A.M....and riding off on my bike at 2:43.
The camera only shows the entrance and outside the parking garage.
But ,I don't understand the .10 on the dollar remark...is that how much you value your ride?

I value my ride as irreplaceble and I am sure most on this site feel the same way. My point is that someone stealing YOUR ride to sell is only going to get between $3,000-$5,000 for the vehicle since he/she will most likely be dealing with a professional chop shop or fence. So, continuing that line of reason, if somebody was going to go to all the trouble to break into your neighborhood / home, they'd be after stuff a lot easier to sell / pawn etc. Still, consider what you've described, somebody on the inside had to be involved. Too many things don't add up to a random crime. In my opinion, you were targeted and the thief had help. Beyond that, there's 100 ways your bike could disappear but in toto is the least likely. I would suspect it's already been broken down into 1000 pieces.
