New CVO/Trike
« on: January 24, 2011, 10:41:15 AM »

Hey guys,
Need some advice.  I'm gonna add a trike kit to a 11 Road Glide CVO.  I'm gonna change the gearing from the 32/68 stock to 30/70 TriGlide gearing.  What do I need to do to address the engine heat?  I really don't (at this point) want to get into the engine.  Can I do it with just a tuner?  My local shop can't get a trike on the dyno so I need to do whatever has to be done while it is still in two wheel mode.  I'd just as soon not make much more noise (exhaust) than the stock pipes.  All thoughts appreciated.

Thanks
Dwight

Remove the cat, maybe change the cams, get it dyno tuned at the least.  You may want to consider removing the baffles and going with Fullsac baffles also.

If you're wanting a "tune" but have the problem of being unable to get a trike on a dyno you could consider the EMS tuning product from Revolution Performance that several of us have enjoyed recently.  It's finally an effective tuning product that you won't need the dyno for.

Just a thought, couldn't the tune be done before the trike conversion on just two wheels?  Maybe the added weight of the drive line would change some things, but I bet it would be pretty close.

I'm sure the EMS would work as well.

Sure.  I, perhaps mistakenly, took the request as local dyno tuning wasn't an option before or after.  If the gentleman wants a dyno tune on two wheels and there's a local machine and a tuner who is gifted that's a definition option.  Gearing or other load changes wouldn't change things (very much).

I had the 32/70 on my 09 TriGlide.  Worked pretty good but still not enough gearing for wind and mountains.  11 TriGlides have the 30/70, that should make things better.  It may not be an issue but this change will also allow me to run the 1 1/8" belt instead of the 1".  The Rev Perf tuner does look like something that might work well, allowing me to make minor changes later without having to dyno.  I thought about using the dyno while it was still a two wheeler but I'm still not sure if the "stock exhaust" that the kit builder says it uses is actually stock or if it needs a couple of small connecter pieces.  Kit is scheduled to ship 3-11 and then I'll know for sure.
