Hi,
I need a bit of advice, I from Australia and last year I bought a bike from Four Rivers Harley in Paducah in March picked it up in June they put a 45 day temp tag on the bike all ok
I am trying to buy a bike in Utah from a dealer as soon I pay which will be in a couple of days they will put a temp tag on it but it will run before I get there and the DMV will only give me a 96 hour tag when I get there because I am not a Utah resident
Question
How can I been a non US resident with a bill of sale, title and insurance ride a bike in the US for 5 weeks any advice would helpful  Thanks

Can't the Utah dealer delay registration (tagging) the bike until you arrive?   Doubt that should be an issue.  Otherwise check the Utah Department of Motervehicles web site...     :nixweiss:

I am not familiar with Utah laws.  Here in Michigan, they will not apply for title work until you pay for the bike.  At that time, they would give you a drive away (21 days) that would allow you to ride the bike on that temporary tag.  Why do you have to pay for bike before you get there?  They should be able to help you if they want to sell a bike?

I know somebody on this forum that rode all the way across the US on a bike that wasn't registered in any state.  Just put a dealership paper plate (the one advertising their dealership) in the license plate frame and rode off.

In Calif. you have 30 days after you purchase a vehicle, to put it in your name.  But it often takes the DMV 60 or 90 days.

Have you thought about paying the dealership all but $1,000 as deposit, until you get there.  Then pay the last $1,000 and your temp tag will start that day.

:huepfenlol2: :huepfenlol2: No, it wasn't Jon.......although he rode across the country with us, too.  Jon rode a bike with a dealership paper plate on his bike for 3 or 4 years.

But Jon was delinquent........he paid his registration each year and put the sticker on his license plate each year.....but left it hanging on his garage wall all those years. :nixweiss:  So technically, he was legally registered......he just wasn't displaying it.

Thanks for the feedback it is great and I agree with the lot of you and after 15 phone calls to various state DMVs here are the results
Dealer once bike is paid for tag issued will not hold over
Utah 96 hr tag need a residental address
Nevarda 15 day temp tag as above
and I am thinking maybe the the bit of card board attached to the back of the 1988 Flhs through 13 states and 5000 miles last year  might have been worth lack chit so I will  get the 15 day tag and wing once again thanks
But I must point out everyone at DMVs were very helpful                                 i think
