Not to pee on anyones wheaties tonight, but I just left Zippers. I talked to Bill Lamb and he advised me that the cases needs to be clearenced, and they would like to see a min of 60 thou clearence. S&S reccommends 30 thou so I don't know what to tell you guys except check. I have the clearence tool that does both so it is not a problem for me!!!!!!

.............When this was mentioned it made me start to wonder also? You would have thought this would have been mentioned. I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that these cams are being advertised as "bolt in cams for the 103ci motors" then the cases wouldn't need to be clearanced. I would also think if they needed to be when I and others ordered them then Zippers would have advised and mentioned/offered the tool that hd-dude talks about for clearancing cases. 'd00d,

The "bolt-in" term refers to not having to pull the heads to replace valve springs and check the piston to valve clearance.

Thanks for the info. I'm going to have dealer do the install so the burden will be on them to make sure all tolerances are met. Good to know this information though so when I ask how install went I can ask how much the cases had to be clearanced. This install is above and beyond my mechanically capabilities and my limited tool box. :)

Me too Fired00d.

I would like to do it but work has me going from daylight to almost dark! I have a inner fairing that needs swapped out from previous trip at dealer, they popped the paint right between the speedo and tach. [smiley=nervous.gif] I'm also getting a new rear tire and 10,000 mile service. I have never been in a twin cam before and not sure what all to look for. I will feel better knowing it was done right. Now if Twolane wasn't so far away I would love to watch his install so I would know! I'm just glad I got em and can't wait to ride! [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

OK GUYS to set the record straight. I called Zippers this morning. They pulled my work order for Punkin. It stated that no clearencing had to be done in the cam cavity when they installed the 575 cams for testing. Now they also said it will most likely fit but THE INSTALLER MUST CHECK to be sure. They also reccommend checking clearence on ANY CAM you install. Min clearence is 30 thou. I hope this helps. IT SHOULD FIT BUT YOU MUST STILL CHECK IT!!!!!!!!

With any luck that'll happen tomorrow JR.  Then on the dyno Saturday morning.  At least that's the plan.  Then ride that red beast Saturday afternoon and see what she feels like.

Glad to see the clearance issue once again returns to the original.  Couldn't believe that Harry, or the dyno/wrench on the project could have missed the need to clearance anywhere from the reported 30k to 60k as they are both in contention for the anal compulsive award for precision, perfection and tolerance.

I'm in the process of restoring a wrecked flhrsei. While I'm waiting on the Mothership for paint.. I'm staring at this unmolested 103. Hmmmm What to do now?

Yeah, 'er 'uh, Ladies and Gentlemen,
When those unhappy souls experience the agony of defeat, brought about by yet another lesson from WV's fastest Bagger, tend to inquire about the size of my cams, I tell 'em they are just like my Pistons.  "BIG 'UNS!"  [smiley=huepfenlol2.gif]  Later--HUBBARD
