You guys remember the sturgis model? I think it was 1980 or 1981. Didnt they run a belt drive primary on that model?

Don't remember the exact year or years offered.  Very early 80s sounds right though.  It was the FXB.  B for belt.  Both primary and final drive were belt.

However, the last year 1981 went back to a chain in the primary due to stretching never to return again.  This was the begining of belt drive.

I also had a 1991 which introduced the front rubber motor mount. It's up on the wall at Rossmeyers HD in Daytona Beach, FL. They bought it from me at a real nice price for their museum which was just starting.

I like to visit it when I am down there.

Owned a 81 for about a year back in the early 90's. Great bike if you liked bowling balls and 8 balls. Could not keep up with the Evo's had to let her go.  ;D

I remember when these came out. I was fascinated with the belt drive. Nice bikes!

I had an 82 Strugis...  The front belt drive exploded on me twice leaving me stranded on the side of the road.   Being stranded sucks, but this bike taught me the term "brotherhood"...  In both cases, a complete stranger pulled over to help...  In one case, the "bro" road his bike home to get his pickup and came back to where I was stranded.  We loaded my bike and he drove me all the way home - about 100 miles one-way.  I tried to repay him for his gas and time, but he said "if ever I see him on the side of the road that I stop and repay the favor.  I have not seen this guy again, but to this day, I will stop to offer and give help to any stranded rider.
