more bridges of all types.......nearly all are draw bridges of one kind or another.

and most with the metal grate deck.  Get to be a challenge when it's down below freezing (iced up) or in the rain.

Many beautiful homes line the levees, most with their own private boat dock or boathouse.

In places the waterways get very wide.

This is the Rio Vista bridge where Humphrey, the hump back whale came up and played for a couple of weeks.

other places, the water ways are much narrower, but still deep enough for the larger boats.

a lot of ducks and other water foul.

and another going airborn.

The newer homes are all built above the flood plane.

The Sacramento Delta is supposed to be the largest area in the greatest danger of flooding, in the U.S.  Due mainly to the deterioation of the levees and the threat of earthquake damage.  The problem (besides the threat to life and property) is that it's the fresh water drinking supply for 125 million Californians (all the way to Los Angelas).

and to give you the true perspective.......the view across the levee.  As you can see, the water is 25'-30'  higher than the land down below the levees.
