Premium Tour-Pak Bag vs New Tour-Pak Bag??
« on: February 14, 2011, 11:10:07 AM »

Has anyone looked at the New Tour-Pak Bag # 93300006 and compared this to last years Premium Tour-Pak Bag  #94807-09?

I was getting ready to pull the trigger on the 94807-09, and noticed the new one that's about $30 cheaper. From the pic's they look identical, and I cannot tell the difference. None of the dealers around here stock the luggage, so I was just wondering if anyone has seen these side by side and can comment on this? they are the exact same dimensions, so I just don't know?

I've got the roller bag already that I stick on the back seat. I want this flat suitcase for the rack.

I saw the new one at the dealer not too long ago.  It was really, really nice.  Could be something I buy with my chrome cash from the credit card

I am looking at these also, probably next week I will pick one up. I did read that the basic model has an "Optional Premium Shoulder strap" and the other comes with it. I agree they look like the same basic design, other than the logo and inclusion of the strap. Still looks like what I need to haul the different jacket, liners, chaps etc...

same question I asked myself. 30 $ difference and identical specs except with the new one the the "built in rain cover" is not mentioned.

We got the 09 part and are really happy with it but I'm still curious about the difference between the two  :nixweiss:

I have the 09 part also and think it is great.  Like kraut said the rain cover may be the only difference.  I have never used my rain cover even though I have been in some pretty heavy rain.  I pulled over to put it on once and was uncomfortable with how loose it was and was thinking it would eventually leave its mark on the paint of the tourpak lid so I rode in the rain without it.  The drawstring on the rain cover works good and I was not worried about it flying off, but there is so much excess material hanging down.  Probably wouldn't hurt the paint but I did not take the chance.  By the way the contents of the bag never got wet.  I think as long as you are riding the fairing and your body keep the rain off the bag.  Now if you stop in a downpour you may need the rain cover.
kraut have you ever used your rain cover and what is your opinion?

I have the Premium Tour pack. Great unit. Love the side pockets for small stuff storage while riding. Garbage bag makes a great waterproofer when used inside a pack.

Well, I drove around to a few dealers yesterday, and naturally nobody stocks any of the luggage. I have seen the old one once, and it seemed OK. There was an earlier thead or two on the old one last year, and the reviews were mostly positive.

Since starting this thread, I have called Harley, and only learned that the new collection is from a new vendor. I did confirm the new bag does not have the shoulder strap, but they both are ballistic nylon, have rain covers, same exact dimensions, and so far, nobody can state any differences. The new one does mention having a lower plastic tub, and have not seen anything to that effect with the older one, so I don't know.

I have to assume they are different somewhere, but I guess until someone can see they side by side, it'll be impossible to tell exactly what?

I have the old one and it also has a lower plastic tub.

Go with the new one...my guess, HD gives them the design and says build it...new vendor building the same product for less dollars.

Maybe the  only difference is the price.  If they are that close do you really care? :nixweiss:

I'm just trying to get the facts. Makes no sense they would have two identical bags at different prices. Knowing they come from different mfr's, there must be some minor differences, not only in features, but quality of the materials as well.  Had they discontinued the old one, this would be a non-issue.

I believe the new one comes with a 2 year warranty, my 09 model, which has several "bubbles" in the fabric where it appears that the fabric exterior has come unglued from the liner, only had a 90 day warranty. I have a friend who has the exact same issue with his, of course when we called customer service they fed us both the ole "we have never heard of this problem, if you would have brought it to our attention sooner we might have been able to help".

Knowing HD they changed manufacturers due to quality control issues but refuse to admit they had a problem and take care of it... or more likely cost.

They wouldn't do something like that, would they?  :duhk:

That could NOT be the reason    ---------    Harley would never think they had a problem, for at least 7 or 8 years, before any changes were made. It must be a cost issue  ---- but why are they passing the savings on to their customers???   Must be a misprint in the catalogue.  Buy it before they notice.
