Crankcase breathers
« on: April 14, 2006, 07:04:10 PM »

Has anyone used the dohertymachine "MYSTFREE" breather system https://www.dohertymachine.com/product_info.php?cPath=1&products_id=99 .It looks like a good product to me. Not that I have a big problem but I do get a small amount of oil into my air cleaner. I was also looking at external breathers http://www.wimmermachine.com/14.html

Great product IMO the best on th e market. I think there was a whole thread on breathers. You should be able to pic up the thread somewhere on the site by doing a search with the words Doherty also put in Screamin_Beagle for a user since I know he was talking about them on the site.

I used the doherty on my 04 se duce and like it,as you said,i was also getting a little ammount of oil in the filter so i used the filter with the cannistors and in line filter they have,If you do get this pay att. that it does not all come togeather, also the tear drop cover that came on my bike wont fit over the big filter so you will have to order the cover too! Good luck it works great.

I'd considered it , when I was having my motor built, but the wrench suggested the S&S reed valve breather , I went with it and seems to work great , no more mist on the outside. As I recall it was about $90

I'd like to know if anyone using the Doherty Mystfree breather kit has had any problems.  I am using the Doherty Powerpacc etc, but I am still getting some oil mist from the air cleaner accumulating between the lifter blocks.  [smiley=nixweiss.gif]Steve

My 01 wouldn't puke no matter how hard you ran it.  I've had the CUSE to better than 100 several times now and it hasn't lost a drop either- at least out the air cleaner.  The DWG2 we've got hasn't ever puked any either, but it gets VERY limited miles.  I'll let you know either Friday or Saturday if the oil pump thing pans out.

I have the Mystfree and the Power Pacc A/C set up 'without' the Power Vents..
Set up has been on a little over a month or so.
Just got back from a 4500 mile trip, no misting at all.
Had it to 105+ a few times, some sustained riding at 85 to 90 mph, but the majority of the riding was at about 80 mph.
I just got the bike (03 SERK), so I don't know if it was misting before.
My last bike a 04 95", it misted bad on trips.
Call Tim Doherty, easy to talk to (except for his being hard of hearing,  ;)) He gave me a break on the price since I bought A/C and Mystfree together.
His stuff is excellant quality, ships fast and my tuner was very impressed with the dyno results of the A/C with the velocity stack.
Might not fix your problem, but should at least help.

Tim stressed not to run it completely full of oil.

This may account for a good part of the successful remedy.  I just find it hard to run my scooter low on oil. [smiley=nervous.gif]  spyder

I just received my Doherty Mystfree kit in the mail.  When I talked to Tim he said something about enlarging the oil drain holes in the rocker covers to about 90 thousandths.  He said that Donny Peterson in American Iron magazine from last months issue had info on that.  I couldn't find it.  Before I go to the trouble of installing the Mystfree kit, I was wondering if anyone on this site knew any more about this drilling issue.  I don't feel comfortable doing this unless I know for certain that it is the right thing to do.  Tim said it may not fix my problem.  I thought it was worth a try.  If anyone knows about drilling these holes larger, I would sure appreciate any help. When I talked to Tim Doherty, I told him my bike was an '06 SE Ultra, so he knows I'm not talking about an evolution engine.  I've subscribed to American Iron since it first came out and have save the issues for about 2 years back.  I guess I'll just put my Mystfree kit in storage until I either talk to Tim again or find other info about the drilling deal.  I should let the "stealer" deal with this issue though.  Of the eleven other Harleys I've owned I haven't had an oil issue until now.  Maybe it's time the MOCO stepped up to the plate and addressed this problem themselves since my bike is still under warranty.   [smiley=drink.gif]  -Steve
