Replacement Stereo Suggestions
« on: February 21, 2011, 08:01:03 PM »

Thanks to everybody for all the great advice I've received from the site on upgrading my factory stereo. I now have a pretty good understanding of what i need to do to achieve the sound I'm after. The Hawg Wired "Four in you Face" system is in but I now that I've got "The Bug" I can't stop. Next is a new head unit. I sure like the Kenwood KIV 700 (utube video attached) and the Alpine iDA-X305. I was wondering what the rest of you are using or could recommend

Checkout the Alpine IDA-X100M...marine grade unit.  You can do a search on it and find numerous posts/pics of it.

Thanks for that JZ3. I looked around at the local shops hoping to check it out but no one here has it. Do you have it or do you know anyone who does.

@bribe36. Check out the thread below. I have the Alpine 305. It's a great deck. The 100m is the marine grade version of the 305. You'll most likely have to order a 100m as they're not usually a stocked item. Either way is a great option. Streaming Pandora in the iPhone works great too.

Oh I've read your thread and viewed your pictures many times Emerald Ice. Very nice detailed account of what you've done. It's write ups like yours that got me motivated to do this in the first place.

I did check out the Alpine 305 and right now it's one of my favourites, next to the 100m. The 305 and 100m are the same price right now, the 305 is available locally and the 100m is available at Crutchfield. ca. Pretty sure either one would do the trick.

Thank you!  That's great that they're the same price. I was originally going to go with the 100m but changed at the last minute because I wanted a black deck. But we'll see if that was a mistake come bad weather riding. At the time I couldn't find pictures of bike installs with the 100m but now there are several and it's a good looking deck. Good luck on your upgrade and please share some images if your install. :)

I was thinking the black 305 would look best in the silver fairing of my SERG, but the water protection offered with the 100m is pretty important. That's why I ordered the 100m last night. Great price I think, $350 Canadian, and it will be here in 3-5 working days. Now I have to start planning for step 3: speakers in the bags, one more amp and maybe a sub.

Hey what adapter is everyone using to keep the harley controls working?

That is a great price for the 100m...can you say where you ordered that from?

Thanks!

I ordered from crutchfield.ca that's the Canadian site. There's also crutchfield.com.   They have pretty great prices, at least for the stuff I'm looking for.

I used the handlebar controls from BikeTronics with my Alpine which has all the standard controls. It also uses the AVC so it adjusts the volume as the bike increases speed like the stock unit.

I thought I'd seen all the stereo posts in here, looks like I missed yours devinbk. Are you running the KIV 9000 now and how do you like the Hertz 6.5"?
