Super Tuner or Power Commander?
« on: February 24, 2011, 11:34:33 AM »

Gents,

I have a 03 SERK.  I put on a new to the bike SE pipes and it didn't idle for chit before or after.  Obviously the bike needs to be tuned.  I am shopping around for a Super Tuner or Power Commander before I take it to the shop.  Which is better?  Anybody got one they need to get rid of?

Thanks,

Eric

I have a (actually two) power commanders that I am willing to part with. One of them was used just during Sturgis last year so it has about two weeks on it. $165 shipped to the lower 48, I think that is the USPS one price box limitation. I also have an older one that is also USB that I would sell for $110 shipped. I've been meaning to list them but, I'm lazy.

Thanks, I have been told once they have been "installed" they couldn't be used on another bike.  Doesn't make much sense to me, I would think they could re-flash anything...but I have heard that a couple of times.  I am interested.

I don't think that is true, the PC has no knowledge of the ECM other than to translate output/input. It is a long story as to why I needed one to use just for Sturgis but it has to do with two up riding at elevation when the bike was tuned for solo at sea level. I needed to get rid of the pinging under load. (DO NOT TELL MY WIFE I SAID THAT)

I won't say a word to her.  LMAO...I am still in the research mode.  I will be in touch in the next few days.  Thanks again!

I know that this is not the way to sell something but I am not in business anyway and honestly we are not talking about a ton of money. I have no plans on using a PC on my new bike. It is my belief that a piggyback system like the PC is about the least efficient option. It's kinda like going on a date with a girl and bringing a translator to talk to her.

Man, this is why I love this site as opposed to other ones out there.  Thanks for the feedback.  I have to get her "tuned" anyway and I am wondering if I just shouldn't go ahead with the tuner.  I have done all the performance upgrades I am going to do for a while.  I'll keep you posted.  Thanks again!

That doesn't apply to the PowerCommander, but it does apply to the SERT/SEPST from Harley.  Buying a used SERT is therefore not a very good idea.

The Power COMMANDER 3 usb could be used on any bike, as well as bike after bike.  It was not like the SERT, Super Tuner or TTS.
I own them and have transfered them around quite a bit playing with them.

Go with the fuel manager that your tuner likes best.

PC3 you can buy used but a SEPST will need to buy new.

Talked to the tuner...he said his tuner (and a lot of other dealers) are using the direct link tuner.  Anybody got any experience with this one?
