The low volume production cost of the 2:1 versus the cost of the high production 2:1:2 is what it came down too. Does anyone really think HD responded to customer input between model years and made the changes?

Harley has the 2 into 1 head pipe in their 2011 catalog.
Part # 65600078
It has the cat in it so I'm not sure why anyone would switch to it.

Not so sure about that "low volume" deal Steve.  Correct me if I'm wrong again, but the 2 into 1 wasn't just on the RG but also on the SG in 2010.  The Street Glide has become one of the most popular models, so I wouldn't call that low volume.  I still believe the original change to the 2 into 1 was driven by cost reduction, and the change back to the 2 into 2 was the result of customer and/or dealer complaints about the appearance.

I suggest that we have Twolanerider get in touch with Willy G's pool boy again to get the straight scoop.

I suspect a LOT of folks who live in Maine are running stock exhaust. They passed a law that specifically targets loud exhaust on motorcycles up there last year and the cops are enforcing it with a vengeance.

I had a 2010 RG with the 2 in to 1 and put the 103 upgrade kit in and loved the way she ran and looked. It got totaled in an  accident so I just bought the 2011 CVO Street Glide. Looking to get new pipes now for the SG but will stay with duel pipes this time because of the cutout in the bags.

A-Men, and lots of neighboring states are jumping on the band wagon (or cash cow)Especially if your from out of state, I wouldn't venture into the North East without an Epa Approval stamp on my muffler barrels.

I didn't have it long enough to get it the way I wanted. I installed a D&D slip on but it still sounded stock. Before I could make any further changes I wrecked it but I did like the way it looked and was looking forward to finding a 2 in to 1 for it. I have a 2009 Fat Boy (also with a 103) with a 2 into 1 Thunderheader and just love the looks and sound of the Thunderheader. I want to keep the duels on the Street Glide however because the extended bags have a cut out for the pipes.
