Here is what I learned on my own (the hard way) before finding this thread:

1. If you are determined (and own a dremel tool), you can get the original chrome oil line cover to fit over the oil temp sensor.  Don't bother... it's not worth the time it takes to install the sensor adapter fitting in that tight space... but it can be done.

2. Installing the sensor in either of the oil cooler lines is problematic because oil doesn't flow through them all of the time.  The gauge will not function until the thermostat opens flow to the cooler.  In colder months, the thermostat may remain closed more than it is open (depending on the duration of your ride) and prevent oil flow to the sensor.

3. The best place for the sensor in this application is in the oil pan.

4.  Always use the search function to see what others have to say before venturing forth on your own.

Add to that.....

5. If you can't find it using the search function, just ask. Good chance somebody will have tried it, know about it, or have it.

Got to do my 5k maint which included the oil change and moved the sensor to my oil pan next to the dead cat and put a plug where the dealer originally placed the sensor in the oil line.

Works like a charm now! Seeing temps about 220 during ride in 75 degree weather. [smiley=jalapeno.gif]

Thanks for the tips.

That's why my mortgage is so high in CA! Did a nice ride along the coast on Saturday, had lunch along the beach.  It was sunny but a bit cool (50's)

Hey Ernie, my mortgage is a fraction of yours and our ride on Sunday was in the 70s.
