What's the mfgr information on the instrument, if any ? Maybe MOCO has changed suppliers and made the install more difficult.

The previous McEwan gauge was a simple install

The McEwan install was simpler than what the MoCo prescribes.  In fact something akin to the McEwan install procedure looks likes what a few of us will end up doing.  The Factories prescribed mount is inline of the supply line on the side of the engine.  They include a brass fitting to (somehow) shoehorn in there.  Not only will it be a major bugger to get things assembled and tightened up in that small place it would mean permanently losing the oil line cover if you mounted it there (not enough room to keep it).  Screwing it in to that spare plug in the oil pan just seems much much simpler.  Have to dink with the harness a bit.  But I KNOW I'll cuss a lot less doing that than I would trying to screw it all in to the recommended location.

Why go to all that trouble, fussin, cussin? With the oil pressure we got now w/the upgrades ain't no way our oil can get hot. [smiley=huepfenlol2.gif] Hard for fluids to get hot when they in motion under pressure. ;D

OH and BTW I have been thinking about the gauge install. IMO I think it would be better to install over the oil pressure gauge. We have been so use to looking in the lower right hand corner since we picked up our bikes. You always will want to look at pressure first as long as your not sitting in traffic and the ambient is not over 90 degrees I don't think you will ever have a problem and be looking at the temp gauge. Oil pressure and voltage are the main ones for me and voltage mainly when I fire the bike up after sitting for a while.

OH and to the person who found the oil temp gauge. THANKS FOR HELPING ME SPEND MORE MONEY!!!!

As I walked past the bike this morning sat down and let my eyes wander.  Sure enough, just as expected, my instrument scan starts at the bottom right then makes a counter clockwise circle.  Bottom right for the oil pressure gauge.  Counter clockwise circle cause that's the habit I started when flying on instruments years ago.  Guess a habit is, well; habitual.

Truth be told Ernie I actually don't have a clue what the best location for an accurate temperature measurement might be.
