Rear suspension
« on: March 04, 2011, 09:53:20 AM »

Guys, I seem to have a problem on my new ride.
My 2011 SESG's rear right suspension seems to be not ok. The spring/coil on the right side seems to be soft. I can actually pull it with my bare hands (with a little effort of course). Is this how it should be? Any ideas?

I don't think that's the way you're supposed to do it. :huepfenlol2:

Seriously, on my 10 I did notice that the springs seemed to be smaller and weaker......but it handles quite well in all types of terrain so....if it works, don't fix it.  :nixweiss:

JCZ, u are correct but the spring on the other side (left), is different. I am just wondering if everyone else has the same on the right side spring (photos in earlier post).

The spring should be different on the left side due to the preload adjustment feature.

MJ, but should the right spring be that easy to retract with hands?

If nobody beats me to it, I can look at it on Sunday and let you know what mine does.

I can't move mine that much. Hell, I,m pulling the scooter in a semi-circle moving them half as much. Thanks for the grip work out.

B. Diamond, is that the right suspension? Does it look like the pic I sent?

Looks the same to me.  :nixweiss:  First ride for the year on her, caught in the rain. Hope that's not a sign of things to come.

Hey guys one shock controls rebound the other controls compression, they are not like conventional shocks, I believe.  Seems like the left side controls rebound and right side compression but don't quote me on that.

I sure hope this new suspension setup works out. Taking delivery of my '11 FLHXSE2 March 18 and doing a Poker Run on the 19th.

Rogzy,
Did you get your owners manual yet? I have the SE supplement to the service manual if I can help in any way.

The suspension is designed that way...the shocks control two different functions, one is damping and the other is rebound.  Only one shock, the left one, is actually "loaded" using the knob.  The right is fixed. It's, IMO, the best stock suspension the MoCo has ever come out with.

I surely hope so. The mountain roads in Korea are great for all out performance runs and testing new suspensions.
