Trully amazing Simon.
I'm wondering with you living so close to Roswell, if it gave you the inspiration for the project?
I don't think Roswell influenced the bike but it's fun to think it might have done so.
As I've stated before, the original objectives were pretty simple.
1. Make something really cool.
2. Make something no one had done before.
3. Have a really "killer" paint job that would feature Danny's skill and creativity.
(No skulls, flames, or two-tones allowed)
At first I was thinking about bright colors - red, orange, yellow ("Skittles" as I learned in Tahoe).
That brought to mind comets, meteors and the hot molten sun with it's coronas. So I started thinking
of a transition of colors bike that started out red and transitioned through orange and then into yellow.
Danny had reservations about being able to turn that big front fairing into a sun-like object and stated
that transitions had been done already, "no big deal".
As I started looking for artwork to use for inspiration, I could never find exactly what I wanted to use for the basis of the artwork.
However, some of the art and depictions of meteor/meteorites showed them entering planetary atmospheres. At the same time,
I started looking for wheels. I found two Renegade wheel styles I really liked, the Whistler and the Cinci. That caused me to look
for graphical designs related to pinwheels, vortexes and spirals. More searching for art inspiration led me to one of natures naturally
occurring spirals, the spiral galaxies. Then I took the meteor, planetary and spiral galaxy themes pieces to Danny. We started talking
about more and more options and the vision transformed from a meteor/comet bike to a galaxy/cosmos bike.
More and more research resulted in collecting over a 100 photos of different objects in the galaxy. We used everything from Hubble photographs
to artists renderings and down-selected about 30 of the most interesting pieces. Then we made a list of "must haves". The rear end
was one of the first decisions made on the bike since we had to commit to the holes for the lights. We didn't know exactly what was going
to be back there but they were going to be orb-like. A few of the other must haves were "the molten sun", spiral galaxies, gas nebulae, and
black holes/quasars.
My final concern was that this not end up being a "black" bike with all this darkness of space around it. Danny assured me that the last thing
anyone would say is "Look at that black bike." He was certainly right on that account.
