This is some pretty bad stuff, I went through the '89 quake here and we didn't have the flooding to deal with so I feel for them. I just got word from our office in Tokyo they are out of power because of powerplant shut downs and the data center is running on Generator. The team there can't get home because of the train service being shut down. During the day it is organized madness, I can't imagine having everybody stuck in the city for any duration.
I just booked my flight to Singapore yesterday routed through Tokyo...
The Quakes are nothing compared to the water.. it destroys everything in its path.
By now most of you have seen the footage of the California harbors that were impacted. Similar things occurred here on Oahu, where the surge ripped the entire pier and the boats and swept them through the harbor, slamming into other moored boats. It looked like a flotilla of refugees. Coast Guard is on site monitoring the movements of the boats as the surge is still occurring. Honolulu Harbor witness reports saw +/- 2 foot surges occurring.
Once again, we got off easy. Say a continuing prayer for all those in Japan who lost EVERYTHING, and for those that paid with their lives.
