Poor response from the Motoco - shame they wont stand by their product quality. Very happy to hear you will be looked after by your dealer - will cost a few $$ to remedy I'm thinking.

Actually, it's more than just a shame that Harley won't stand behind their crap.  It's also most likely a violation of various and sundry consumer protection/warranty laws.  The problem is, since the dealer says he will take care of it himself, do you really want to spend time and money fighting H-D?  My guess would be probably not.  And once again H-D gets away with screwing folks, knowing that most won't sue them over a $600 part.

Here's the conundrum as I see it.  You don't want to punish the dealer in the future, since he is stepping up to satisfy you.  But does that mean that you will buy another Harley next time?  If so, then H-D gets another free ride and a reward for being unethical and for producing crap.  And nothing ever changes for the better.

Murphy,

Let me know when you are coming down this way.  I will ride up to New Roc Harley, from Long Island and personally introduce you to, my friend Jack, the owner of NRHD AND, I'll buy you a cup of coffee (I'll probably show off my bike, to you, too) :)

I was too freaked out to take pictures :) I put the stock seat back on so I don't have to look at it.  I will get pics when New Roc changes the fender for me.  I can't bear to look at it!

I would make sure you keep the Speedo Under 100 mph, or maybe the Paint will Blow Off the rest of the bike?
Hope you don't have any other Paint issues & I doubt you will be the only one with paint issues on the Krypto.

Now that "IS" funny.......I have had a bunch of people tell me to put tape all over the bike and see if any of the paint comes off of any other parts......  :)

unbelieveable.    My wife will be so glad she didnt go ahead with her purchase, actually she cancelled because of the expected short term life span of the 110, not because of the paint issues

Why would the 110 have a short lifespan?

It's definitely not a new or unusual phenomenon, interlayer paint bond failures have been around as long as multicoat paint films have been applied.  But it's not acceptable, normal, the customer's fault, or any of the other BS Harley may use to avoid responsibility.  They have been taking a cheaper and cheaper approach to appearance defects over the past decade, changing standards to include stuff like the defect must be normally visible from X number of feet from the bike, and on a normally visible area.  So the hunk of dirt in the top of the tank that you can see quite clearly when sitting on the bike, but can't see from 10 feet away, is "acceptable".  Or the fact that the bottom of the saddlebags didn't get the proper clearcoat is "acceptable".

I'm going to take a not-so-wild guess here and submit that Harley's response was not based on the folks at Harley really believing that it's OK for a stick on tape to pull off properly applied paint, since that would be a totally indefensible position unsupported by paint professionals, but was in fact due to one of those new rules about being normally visible.  If you leave the stock seat in place, you can't see the defect so therefore the defect doesn't exist.  I guess if you want to remove the stock seat and install a solo seat, you need to check with the cheap SOB's at Harley first before removing that protective film.
