Very cool, Don...
What's on it?
Somewhere I've yet not discovered I also have the '56 and '59 races and maybe a couple of others. But it's been too long since I'd seen them to remember for sure. The recordings really were just sounds from the day. Track recordings. Pit recordings. And some commentary if I remember right. Not practiced or rehearsed though. Just sounds from Sebring. I need to make up a new grounding lead for the turntable today so I can play it again.
Next three images are the three columns of text on the back of the album. It's an interesting read.
I never saw anything at Sebring. Wrong end of the country for what was then a SoCal kid. But do remember dad taking me on what seemed the long trip up to Laguna Seca once in what had to be '67 or '68. The old timers were still talking about how much they missed the old Pebble Beach road races. Don't think I learned until later the PB races were cancelled because they were too dangerous even for the 1950s...
Used to have a FI '57 vette that I took to the historic races at Laguna Seca a couple times. That was fun. A bunch of old fiberglass cars around guys who were too afraid to touch anything. That and radial tires against most of their nylons and passing was easy!
