For the Love of the Game
« on: March 16, 2011, 11:23:52 PM »

At the risk of repeating a joke that has already been told, I'll go with one that has been around a while but always makes me smile.  If it's a repeat, please accept my apologies.

One beautiful Saturday, after going for a morning ride, Charles met his brother Fred for their regular golf outing at 11:00 AM.  Later that evening about 9:00 Charles came home to a very upset wife.  Charles had his head hung low and didn't look his wife in the eye.

His wife demanded to know where he had been for ten hours.  They had missed their date night with dinner reserversations and their theatre tickets.  She really let him have it and accused him of going to a bar, the track, gambling, you name it.

After a few painful seconds, Charles raised his head and looked her in the eye and announced that the golf game started off well, he was hitting the ball extremely well, however on the fifth green Fred had collapsed and died of a heart attack and that's why he was late.

His wife was grief-stricken and apologized all over for assuming the worst.  She gave her husband a hug and began to console him.  After a few minutes passed, she asked to know all the specifics about the ambulance ride, ER and other details.

After a moment Charles said that after the heart attack on the fifth green he knelt down, checked for a pulse and it was obvious that his brother of 62 years was completely gone.  His wife sobbed a little.

Charles said he realized that there was nothing he could do and so for the next 13 holes it was just hit the ball, drag Fred.  Hit the ball, drag Fred.
