Krypto Question
« on: March 17, 2011, 10:00:18 AM »

I'm looking HARD at getting the SESG in Krypto BUT my dealer has told me that they've heard that the powder coating scratches very easily.

Have any of you Krypto owners noticed this at all?

Any preventive measures that can be taken to avoid this?

Sparky...from what I've read here the issues that the MoCo was originally having was an issue with the gloss black engines fading paint...however, one of our members was removing the clear paint protector under his stock seat in preparation for a solo seat and in doing so the paint peeled up with the protective film. Those are the only two paint issues that I've seen so far mentioned on here. The MoCo initially refused to cover the protective film issue, but later recanted and agreed to warranty the fix. If it speaks to you...don't deny yourself! You only live once! Ride Hard, Ride Often!

Doc & Wayne;
Thanks for the input!

Doc, I did read the paint issue thread, glad the MoCo is covering that afterall.  The fading I would expect over time.  So those are pretty much non-issues.

As a matter of fact Wayne, they did mention that they've got a haze/gunstock and a black on order - but the shop has a great reputation for customer support which my brother and father in law both can attest to.  They're longtime customers of the shop.

I really think it's more an issue of rumor control/misunderstanding of the fading issue - unless the powder coat is paper thin I wouldn't expect scratching to be an issue under normal circumstances.

I just really wanted to get it from the horses mouth to either verify or deny the situation.

Thanks again for your thoughts and please keep me posted if you hear anything otherwise.

Sparky,

I'm th guy whose paint came off the rear fender. Powder coating, like chrome will scratch if you scratch it.  I wouldn't worry about that issue.  The issue I would "wonder about" is that I'm not sure that your dealer could get you a Krypto unless he traded one from another dealer and That is highly unlikely..........given the fact that there are very few Kryptos around as the MOCO asked all the dealers to change the color in Phase 1 and 2 shipments and then canceled all the others. I just think your dealer can't get one and wants to sell you another color that he can get.  Just my opinion!

The way I understood the fading paint issue, was that the initial few demo Krypto bikes when left outside in the sun at the dealer meeting or a large rally soon afterwards, probably Sturgis, that the green paint faded dramatically to white on the side of the bike subjected to the suns rays.

26,145.00 BP X $1.67/BP = $43,662. :o  If I didn't know better, I'd think your dealers are owned by Bruce Rossmeyer.  :huepfenlol2:

Bear in mind that the £26,145 includes £125 registration, and 20% vat, so it netts to £21,683. @1.67 =$36,211.

So we don't do too bad in the UK ;D

When you put it that way, you don't fare too bad.  Gotta pay for the Queen's summer "cabin" at Sandringham.  ::) I didn't realize the VAT had gone up to 20%, it was 15% when I was stationed at RAF Mildenhall from 1982-1985.

That translates into your dealer doesn't have a Krypto and wants to try to convince you into another color so he's feeding you a line of BS.  Shame on him......time to look for a new dealership.

Remember, this forum knows more about CVOs than any dealership.....we have to educate them to CVO issues.

No issues so far with mine. A scratch in black powder coat would deff be more noticeable than chrome or any other color for that matter. Thats the first ive heard of that rumor.  As for the Fading issue, When i picked mine up, the gen manager said he cornered one of the "higher ups" from HD at their dealer meeting.  He was told that the green paint faded when the bikes were sitting out in the sun at the sturgis rally. They noticed it because the side of the bike that got the evening sun was considerably lighter than the other side that spent less time facing the sun.  The paint passed all the UV tests in the lab, but in the sunlight, it faded very quickly. They had to go back and redo the chemical composition of the paint and test and retest.  He said the guy told him "its not like they we're makin mini van paint, this has to be right."  So we'll see i guess, sure hope they got it right. I am VERRY happy with my decision, i started to go with the O/B color when they started talkin bout paint problems during the delay, but i figured id wait it out because its what I liked and wanted. While the krypto was on delay, my dealer would call me when they got each new color in to let me see if i wanted to switch.  Talk about tuff! They were all awesome looking colors.  I do agree with the others that the dealler sounds like he just wants to sell what he has at the moment.  Get what YOU want and get to ridin.

I say go for the GREEN!! :cucumber:
