Catalyst on FLHXSE2
« on: March 26, 2011, 04:06:58 AM »

Good morning,
I soon go to accept my Kryptonite and I am listing options.
I am indeed going to take up of exhaust Kess-tech (variable opening) and I also liked to change the catalyst.

Unfortunately the diameter must be the same, and the US model had a catalyst too...

So, is the vance power dual can be put on ? what about the sensors ? the diametre is the same than origin ? :'( :-\

American Custom, in Fairfield Ct. takes stock HD Headpipes and takes out the cats.....about the third of the price of Fullsac's.

Any competent welder can cut your stock headpipe in two , remove the cat, weld it back together and then all you have to do is use your choice of 3 different sizes of the fullsac replacement baffles in your stock mufflers and you will spend probably less than 150.00 total. You will love the sound and loss of heat from the left pipe. You will however need to retune your bike preferably with one of Steves(fullsac) TTS tunes. That is another few hundred dollars.

No tuning needed on the American Custom setup!

Glenn....why no tuning needed on the American Custom setup?? Since the bikes are tuned lean at the factory, taking the cat out can only make in leaner.....

Dear Olivier 105

There is another way if you like to go it. Ask around in this community who wants to sell their OEM mufflers of a FLHXSE2.

Then let them ship to Fullsac and do the powercores!!
Looks very stock and only very aggressive "flics" will notice that it is an american muffler!!

It is a cheap way to get full performance out of your CVO Street Glide!

That's a good question and when I asked the guys at American, they told me that the current system will adjust for their system without the need for tuning.  They did say that, of course, a good tuner will give you the best performance out of any system, including theirs BUT, I saw the Dyno charts and saw letters from customers who did before and after Dyno pulls without tuning and the results are staggering. My bike runs great with this system.

Personally, I would never do anything to the exhaust system to open it up without modifying the ECM in some way or another.  The stock closed loop system can only do so much...your bike is running much leaner than it was, and it was already lean.  To each his/her own though...

TC,

Could you elaborate more on this topic?   If the bike runs leaner....what would the "symptoms" be to look out for?

One would be really high oil temps; excessive heat coming off the rear cylinder (which is already damn hot).  Really white spark plugs, instead of the slightly tan color.

The bike is really just an air pump, and you've already got the free flowing air filter...opening up the exhaust just let the engine pump a lot more air through it, with about the same amount of fuel as it had before = Lean.  Adding more fuel, when done properly, gives better drivability, performance, and cools the engine down a bit in the process, without hurting the fuel mileage much at all...if it's done right, by a competent tuner, using whatever device he is most comfortable using.  The 64K question is always finding a good tuner in your area...

Or, there are good systems out there that tune themselves...lots of choices.

What self tuning system would you recommend?
