Can anyone remember.....
« on: April 25, 2006, 06:40:36 PM »

Hey Gang,
A friend of mine is buying a new Harley straight off the show room floor. I saw the bike and also noticed she had 10 miles on the speedometer. The dealer claims that all new bikes come from the factory with 10 miles on them, this he claims from a test run done at the factory. Can anyone who has bought a new bike remember if your bike had 10 miles on it, or any miles for that matter?
Thanks,
Rusty

Just looked at paperwork from when I purchased my [smiley=pumpkin.gif] it's showing 15. This was after accessories were added, and bike was state inspected, and I'm sure dealer test drove it. I do remember either reading or seeing on a TV show that all bikes are test rode on something like a dyno for quality control before leaving factory. Hopes this helps.

Rusty,

Every bike is run at the factory on a "rolls" test, which is basically a set of rollers similar to a chassis dyno.

Mine had .7 when I left; and ran out of gas before I got less than a mile to the closest gas station.  I'm thinkin' I didn't get all the pre-delivery service and check out ;D .

(that shop is doing much better now though)

So I guess my bike missed both tests, factory & dealer, they were running about a month late with the fatboys last year, that a long time to wait before collecting your profits, so just get them out the door and let your customers do your testing & development. I don't know of any industry that doesn't take that route more times than not, actually it makes me kinda happy that I got to pop her cherry and the first to pin her tach & speedo.  [smiley=huepfenjump3.gif]
