Excellent information Doc.
I will be calling CV this week. Don't know if I want to spend the extra $58 for the vent but it its function seems practical.

Doc, One more question, what year is your RG?
I called "Wind Vest" and they tell me that the wind shields lay back a little more on the 2004 and older RG's.
Mine is a 2001 SERG, I have narrowed my choices down once again to the Clear view & the Wind Vest.
The only difference I can tell is the CV is 2 inches wider and cost about $100 more.
WTF, CV charges $28 for light tint (everyone else does not charge) and over twice what everyone else charges for UPS Groung shipping. I really like the CV based on Doc's experience and feedback but don't know if it's worth the extra charges for tint & shipping.

Anyone have experience with the Wind Vest windshield on a RG?

I have a 00 SERG, so it's pretty much the same as yours. Ask CV for a "second" and save a lot of money, and go to a event where they have a booth and save a lot more and get try every shield until your happy. I got a "second" and they had to show me the 1/8" scratch, which I'm sure I couldn't find today.
I don't know anything about the WV, but it looks very similar to the CV on the website. It looks like it has a little more of a recurve so they recommend a lower height to avoid the distorsion in your line of site. I tried the vent again this weekend and noticed a little less turbulence with the vent open when riding into a strong headwind. One problem though, I hit a big bug and the vent sliced and diced it like food processor and splattered all over me and the bike. :P  Doc

Doc, you mentioned that you got the stock height CV.  Wasn't the stock height on the 2000 & 2001 12 inches? Did you get the 12 inch? The picture look taller.
Also, the CV site states that their shields come with new "well nuts". Did you get those and were they the crappy HD style or the perminent replacements?

The shields come with a different kind of well nut which seem more durable and new gasket to handle the added thickness over the stock HD shield. The foam insulation at the bottom of the shield also replaces the stock foam and makes the shield silent. At this point I'm not sure what they mean by stock height because it's definitely taller than the stock shield on our bikes. They removed and replaced three shields while I was there and replaced the well nuts every time, now I have a baggie full of well nuts from the experience. They also changed out the CB for the tall shield I came with to the 98 RG...nice folks at CV.  Doc

Doc, I can't thank you enough for your info on the CV wind shield.
I finally pulled the trigger and order one tonight. I even splurged and got the vent with the light tint & re-curve.
I told them I heard about them from this CVO site and your experience with them at AZ Bike Week and they gave me 10% off.
Can't wait to get it.
Thanks again,
Jerry

I hope you have a good experience with your new shield. Its a never ending battle trying to find that perfect match, but your choice is a good one. I'm hoping the HD redesigns their fairings to make things work out of the box...how about a power shield to adjust for different riding conditions, its not like it hasn't been done before by the metrics.  Doc
