Detonation isn't caused by the spark plugs.  You didn't mention a tuning device in your post, have you had the bike tuned?

Sounds like your timing is possibly advanced too much. I run a zippers thundermax auto tune on my FXDSE2. It works fantastic but upon instilation it pinged a bit under hard accelleration, and I had to simply retard the timing on the computer. Also, ensure that it is actually spark knock (pinging) you hear. I mentioned a rattle/clunking noise on my bike to my dealer and they told me it was detonation (spark knock) and to use higher octane fuel. It turned out to be the crappy compensator sprocket that comes stock. I replaced that with the screaming eagle compensator ($300) and it works great. In any case spark plugs are not to blame.

Welcome to the site.
is this a new bike for you?  I see 3 posts....
Reason I ask is that should be a 103.
Agreed, sounds like timing is advanced.

Yes proper tune, but before you check that, make sure you are running 91 or higher octane, and if you were, try another gas station.

Also, best to stick with stock OEM spark plugs and wires, as straying from that can also cause this issue, due to the fact HD has a knock sensor system that works through the plugs and wires.

I too had a bit of ping at WOT earlier this year. I got rid of the HD Double Platinum plugs and went back to the plain jane OEM plugs, switched gas to only Shell 91 (no ethanol), or Petro Canada 94 (formerly Sunoco 94), and the problem is gone.

I'm sure most of you are aware, ending up with the true octane rating with these pumps with multi-selections on one hose is tough. Most cagers take regular, and everything to the base of the pump, through the hose, and nozzle is then filled with regular. That means, perhaps up to 1/2 gallon or more of your fill is regular, before the premium fully purges through. Kind of sucks when you think about it. I always try to wait for a pump after another biker in our group fills with premium first! Something to think about at least.
